Our worldly life is full of preparation. Before we undertake an action, an element of preparation is required which is also essential behind every task. If we fail to prepare, we will not recieve the achieved outcome for our actions and have failed in that endeavour or initiative. If we are weak in our preparation, then the consequences will have a negative effect on us, for example failing to prepare for a long journey. This is regards to worldly life planning.
وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
"And the Hereafter is far better and more lasting." [87:17]
The Hereafter is many times better than this world and its preparation will last forever. Allah ta'ala explains that whatever we attain this world, will soon perish. The results are temporary and not very beneficial.
If we prepare for the Hereafter, the result of our preparation will remain forever and it will increase. There is goodness in this preparation. If we neglect our preparation for the Hereafter, we will face major loss and we will not be able to compensate for it.
"O believers! Be mindful of Allah and let every soul look to what ˹deeds˺ it has sent forth for tomorrow..." [59:18]
We should ponder over our preparation for the Hereafter. Allah ta'ala uses the word tomorrow to indicate that the Hereafter is very near. It is around the corner from us.
We fail to experience the enjoyment in our actions for the Hereafter because we do not have the intention for its preparation. This is why we have become destroyed. The Kalaimaat that we recite in the Dhikr gathering are better than the whole world. These are the treasures for the Hereafter which we must accumulate and are much more beneficial for us than the wealth of this world.
When a person recites the Kalimah - the statement of faith, without committing sins, the doors of heavens are opened for him and his statement reaches the throne of Allah ta'ala.
The Hereafter is very high in status compared to this lowly world. There is no benefit in chasing this world. We shouldn’t tire in performing deeds for the Hereafter, as this world is very short and temporary.
Before making a decision in this world, we should assess whether the result will grant us goodness and benefit for our Hereafter. We should never rush with regards to the steps we take in this world, for example, starting a new job, otherwise, we may incur loss. Rather, we must take time in reflecting and also perform Istikhara and nafl before we make a decision. This assessing is part of the Sunnah.
On the other hand, when it comes to matters which benefit our Hereafter, we must not hesitate performing beneficial actions. We should implement them immediately and hasten to perform good deeds even if they are seemingly minor. This is the way to become successful.
With very breath, we should seek to earn Paradise. When we rise in the morning, we should utilise our breaths for the benefit of the Hereafter. We must assess what we are earning for the Hereafter via our daily efforts.
"And fear Allah, ˹for˺ certainly Allah is All-Aware of what you do." [59:12]
We are devoid of the fear of Allah ta'ala and have not thought about what we are sending forth for our Hereafter. Unfortunately, we have confined the reward of Paradise to a few mere acts of worship.
The greatest treasure Allah ta'ala has granted us is good health and wellbeing. This refers to having a roof over our head, possessing food and having the ability to digest it. Furthermore, youthful age is a great treasure from Allah ta'ala wherein a man possesses vibrancy, power and strength and his organs are functioning well.
Allah ta'ala has also granted us time and opportunities for good.
We must take advantage of our youth, before we face old age. Our youth is not for marriage, earning or accumulating assets, because soon these things will perish. Rather, we must value our youth and utilise it to earn for the Hereafter by performing worship and rising in the night for Tahajjud. Furthermore, we should spend our youth in the company of our Sheikh. Thereafter, in old age, we can rest, as we have performed the hard work in our youth. By living our lives like this, we will enjoy the rewards for our efforts forever in the Hereafter.
We should work hard and make our life meaningful now, before we are faced with affliction, such as poor health. We must take heed from those who are sick and take advantage of our prosperity before facing adversity.
Enjoyment of this world and enjoyment of young age is very minimal. The more we chase the world, the more we will face an imbalance.
We should all have a connection with a WaliAllah and earn their prayers. This will cause us to succeed. We should not request for prayers, rather, we should strive to earn their prayers. We should always have the desire to please the heart of our Sheikh.
This world has no value, so we should never abandon prayers for the sake of our jobs and desires. Whilst we have health, we should never leave prayer in congregation. Such a person who does this, he will never be rectified and nor will his progeny be rectified.
When Allah ta’ala grants someone wealth, in reality, it does not belong to him. Rather, it is from amongst the rights of the believers that they have a share in his wealth.
Allah ta'ala grants us wealth and he desires that we distribute our wealth in society in order to attain Paradise. Soon our wealth may be destroyed and then we will regret not spending our wealth correctly. We should be habitual in caring and sharing what we have.
We should consider prosperity as a bounty and treasure from Allah ta'ala. This refers to inner contentment and satisfaction. We should never abuse this contentment by wasting time on holidays. We should utilise our time, health, and opportunities by performing His remembrance in abundance and turning towards Allah ta'ala.
Why do we waste these treasures?
Shaytan and Nafs cause us to become negligent and lazy. We waste our time and perform unlawful actions. Ignorance and negligence are great diseases. If these sicknesses are eliminated, one will begin to utilise his health and wealth in the correct way.
The cure to negligence and ignorance, is to visit the company of the one who is not heedless himself, which is the Kaamil Sheikh. However, there is a condition to success. We must have the intention for reformation and earning the pleasure of Allah ta'ala, in order for our negligence to be removed. If there is contamination in our intentions, we will never be cured.
In order to have connection with the Sheikh, we must have correct intentions and good manners. We must have complete respect for our Sheikh.
One with bad manners can never progress upon the path of Tasawwuf as it is the path to attaining the closeness of Allah ta'ala via the company of the AwliyahAllah.
When you possess these two things, your connection with your Sheikh will become strong and when your connection is strong, then your ignorance will be eradicated and you'll be cured.
The biggest hard work in this era is to adhere to the company of the waliAllah. Obey him and you'll progress. To find a Sheikh, request Allah ta'ala for a Kaamil Sheikh and He will grant you a teacher. If you follow this path, then you have spent your life preparing for the Hereafter. If you go against this, your children and progeny will follow suit. If you fail to prepare for your Hereafter, you will fail in life.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen

السَّلاَمُ عَليْكُم ورَحْمَةُاللّهِ وَبَركاتُه.
A very beneficial & sobering talk by Hazrat Shaykh Saab.
May Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) allow us to implement the advices of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ before death.
Ameen.
