How Can We Become Pious?

The purpose of this life is the Hereafter. With every passing moment, we should work towards earning for our Hereafter.

Before retiring to sleep, we must assess how much dhikr we have performed during the day. Dhikr grants a person many rewards, however, it is a shame that we fail to remember Allah ta'ala in this world.

In reality, when one partakes in a dhikr gathering, Allah ta'ala announces his forgiveness before he departs and his sins are erased. Therefore, we should loot the blessings from this gathering. Even if we arrive tired, we are still included in receiving the reward and blessings.

After praying Maghrib prayer on every night, we must supplicate to Allah ta'ala admitting and acknowledging our sins. We must plead to Allah ta'ala and promise to Him that we will not repeat the sins and mistakes we performed throughout the day. We must seek forgiveness and His protection from sin. We must strive to make Friday better than the previous day. We must assess ourselves and speak to Allah ta'ala in such a manner, daily after Maghrib, for forty days. In doing so, our fortunes will change.

"O believers! Enter into Islam wholeheartedly and do not follow Satan’s footsteps. Surely he is your sworn enemy." [2:208]

Our duty is to enter Islam completely. We cannot pick and choose what we would like to practice. If we fail to comply, we will be punished by the entrapment of Shaytan. Our lifestyle will aligned with his trickery and influence.

Thus, a believer must be fully immersed in the practice of Islam in all circumstances of life. A believer lives in ignorance when he is satisfied with his life whilst disobeying Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala will reckon him for failing to implement the deen entirely.

Allah ta'ala made the deen easy for us to implement. His commands are not a burden for us, therefore, we have no excuse to practice.

Why do we fail to perform righteous deeds and why are we neglectful and disobedient?

We must imitate the Sunnah in order to become the beloved of Allah ta'ala. Unfortunately, we are ashamed to practice which shows that we have a sickness within.

The AwliyahAllah - the spiritual physicians are able to provide a solution for this.

Our Imaan invites us to practice upon the orders of Allah ta'ala and His Messenger ﷺ. This is the criteria of faith and if we fail to implement, then we are considered spiritually sick.
We must assess which orders of Allah ta'ala and His Messenger ﷺ we are abandoning.

It is a shame that we falsely claim to be on the deen whilst we abandon the Sunnah. Those who take part in demonstrations and marches whilst failing to practice the deen, are dishonouring that which they demonstrate. Similarly, if we promote knowledge or engage in propagation of deen, without following the Sunnah ourselves, then we are considered liars.

What is lacking within us?
When a person becomes deficient in the love for Allah ta'ala, he begins to disobey Allah ta'ala. This is prevalent in our society.

In reality, one's success is hinged upon the love for Allah ta'ala. When the love for Allah ta'ala is decreased, then sicknesses spread within a person, such as hypocrisy and failing to observe prayers. The more the love decreases, the more one is distanced from deen.

When the love for Allah ta'ala is increased within a person, his deen becomes stronger and his lifestyle is improved. Thus, the deficiency and the strength of the deen is hinged upon the love for Allah ta'ala.

Even if a person possesses faith, yet, he lacks the loves for Allah ta'ala, he becomes weak in deen and will not implement the orders of Allah ta'ala and His Messenger ﷺ.

If we wish to practice Islam completely, we are required to have love for Allah ta'ala. It we remain true to this path, we will be granted success. The more we strengthen this love, the more our Imaan is made complete.

What is the cure and how to attain it?

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ

"O believers! Be mindful of Allah and be with the truthful." [9:119]

To strengthen the love for Allah ta'ala through sitting in the company of the one who already loves Allah ta'ala.

We should never sit in the company of those who falsely claim to love Allah ta'ala, lest we will become liars too. We will be wrongly influenced by them and will struggle to practice deen. We will fail to be corrected and improved due to their influence.

We should sit with those who are trying to follow Islam wholeheartedly, through obeying Allah ta'ala and His Nabi ﷺ. If our lifestyle does not match that of Nabi ﷺ, then we cannot succeed.

The commentators mention that, just how Allah ta'ala orders one to enter Islam wholeheartedly, similarly, this order of sitting with the pious people will be upheld until the day of judgement.

Until Qiyamah, the AwliyahAllah will continue arriving to the earth to facilitate this order and to grant guidance to the Ummah.

The AwliyahAllah are speciality selected by Allah ta'ala. They grant advice purely for the pleasure of Allah ta'ala. They bear the hardships and they are gentle and kind. They connect the creation to Allah ta'ala.

To find a waliAllah, we must supplicate to Allah ta'ala daily after every prayer, sincerely requesting for good company. He will then direct us towards good company, however, we should not be a hypocrite and we should be sincere.

We must accept our mistakes and sins without deceiving ourselves. Although we commit many sins, we should continuously seek improvement from Allah ta'ala and seek the right path. We should never become despondent, as Allah ta'ala is very close to the one who calls out to Him. We should constantly repent and seek the company of the AwliyahAllah as they are intermediary for success in the Hereafter. Due to their guidance and efforts, one may be rectified and become a waliAllah himself before he departs this world.

We must become honest observers of deen by sitting in the company of the honest. Good company is like good fragrance. It grants many benefits and similarly, the AwliyahAllah emit beautiful fragrance whereby a person always receives benefit in their company. One never leaves the company of a waliAllah empty handed if he arrives in his company with correct intentions.

In the Hereafter, we will be reckoned for how much love we have for Allah ta'ala. Either a person possesses love for the world, or the love for Allah ta'ala. If his love for Allah ta'ala is stronger, his love for the world will decrease.

When Allah ta'ala's love increases within a person, he desires to spend time on those actions and deeds which will grant him benefit and love for the world is eliminated.

We must assess which love we possess. Eliminating love for the world does not been abandoning food, drink and work. It simply means performing actions within the circle of Islam and abstaining from wasting time. In such a way, a persons earning for lawful sustenance also becomes a form of worship.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
