How Do You Make Your Deen Strong?

Those who attended the dhikr gatherings in this world, will be sat on thrones of marble and pearl in the Hereafter and their faces will be illuminated. People will wonder who such people are and Allah ta'ala will announce that these people are those who remembered Him in the Masaajid.

The entire deen is dependant upon dhikr, although there are only a few people who perform it. Allah ta'ala praises dhikr and the dhaakir himself, yet it is a shame that we fail to perform it. We have deprived ourselves of the sweetness of dhikr. This is a sign of Qiyamah dawning upon us.

The way to develop and reform the generation of our youth today is through encouraging them to perform dhikr. When a person performs dhikr, it penetrates the depths of his heart. Allah ta'ala has made it so easy for us to sit in the gathering of dhikr. We have the luxury of sitting on a carpet, big masaajid, and air conditioning, yet we still fail to attend.

There is a hadith narrates by Hadhrat Abu Razin رضي الله عنه in which he mentions that Nabi ﷺ stated, "Oh Abu Razin! Shall I tell you the deeds by which you will attain goodness both in this world and in the hereafter? Continue attending the gatherings of the people of Dhikr." [Hilyat Al-Awliya]

Nabi ﷺ mentioned that dhikr strengthens one's deen. It grants a person goodness and blessings in both worlds and it grants one Paradise.

Our success and our salvation is based upon the strength of our deen. One may gain worldly progression, by leaving the deen, however, this is a massive deception.

Allah ta'ala destroyed the previous nations who held power as a reminder for us to take heed from.

In this world, there is no comfort and peace. It is unfortunate that we chase after wealth and all those things which will grant us worldly status and progression. This is not the pathway to true success.

We are prepared to make huge sacrifices, to cheat and to lie and to migrate from our own countries just to earn a bit more wealth. This is due to having forgotten the teaching of the Prophet ﷺ.

In reality, Islam is not confined to fulfilling the five pillars of Islam. Rather, it is the complete way of life through which a person may uphold Allah ta'ala's instructions and imitate the ways of His Rasul ﷺ. A person who lives a life against these instructions and methodologies, his worship will not be accepted.

We must adhere to this deen and strengthen it no matter the challenges which appear in our way. We should not sacrifice the laws of Allah ta'ala and His Rasul ﷺ until the time of our death.

We will be questioned about the times we compromised our deen and prioritised our jobs and businesses over prayer and implementing the laws of Allah ta'ala.

Deen refers to obeying Allah ta'ala by imitating the Prophet ﷺ. This includes hastening towards the call to prayer even in the middle of the night. Only those with valid excuses are exempt from attending the congregation.

Those who sleep in and abandon prayer, their actions of the day are full of Haraam because they went against the law of Allah ta'ala. Such a persons day has been destroyed. Likewise, if a person purposely abandons the prayer of Fajr, it is like his home and family are destroyed.

We must strictly adhere to the laws of Allah ta'ala in order to strengthen our faith, otherwise we are facing deception in this world from Shaytan.
We must assess ourselves to see our level of deen and whether we are heading towards Hellfire or Paradise.

We may assess ourselves in three ways. What is the level of my deen? How close am I to Hellfire and to Allah ta'ala's punishments?

We must live a life whereby we prioritise upholding the laws of Allah ta'ala over our businesses. We must sacrifice this world for the sake of the Hereafter. In fact, our entire life should be sacrificed for the sake of upholding the laws of Allah ta'ala. Only then we will experience satisfaction through prayer.

When a person overlooks his sins and considers his sins insignificant, rather, sees benefit in his sins, then it means that he is obeying his own desires. This is referred to as Nafs Ammaarah. Such a person is destroyed and has arrived to the banks of Hellfire.

Our sinful actions won't save us in our graves. We should at least acknowledge our sins in the court of Allah ta'ala and seek help and protection from Him.

We must feel regret and remorse over our sins and this is what Nafs Lawwaamah refers to.
When we turn to Allah ta'ala in sincere repentance and we work hard and make a promise not to repeat the sin, a person reaches the level of Nafs Mutma'innah.

We must assess our personal conditions. If we overlook our sins, it is considered a very dangerous state to be in for a believer and such a person will be destined for Hellfire.

Nabi ﷺ mentioned that if we wish to strengthen our deen, receive goodness and wellbeing in both worlds, then we must attend the dhikr gatherings and hold on to them with firmness. The dhikr gatherings are a great treasure for us and we must make it a habit to attend them regularly.

Whenever we remember Allah ta'ala, He remembers us. Those places upon which dhikr is performed will become a witness for us in the Hereafter.

In another Hadith, Nabi ﷺ mentioned that we should fulfil the rights of the routes because we will be questioned about it. This refers to performing dhikr whilst travelling on the roads and streets. These same roads will bear witness for us in the Hereafter and will be proud that a Dhaakir walked past him.

We must intend to implement what we have heard in this gathering. The pious predecessors state that before sitting in the gathering, a person should form an intention and he should ask Allah ta'ala to grant him the strength to implement what he hears in the gathering. If he fails to form this intention, he will leave empty handed and receive double punishment. This is because Allah ta'ala granted him a great favour by allowing him to partake in a blessed gathering and listen to good talk.

We must make a firm resolve to try our best to practice what we hear in the gathering. If we seek Allah ta'ala's help, He will certainly make implementation easy for us.

From today, we should make a firm promise not to miss a single Fajr prayer. Rather, we must intend to join the dhikr gathering afterwards too. Those who remain for dhikr after Fajr until sunrise will receive the reward for one Hajj and Umrah. We must also perform dhikr as much as we can in seclusion.

It is not difficult upon us to join the dhikr gathering as Allah ta'ala Himself has formed this system of life. He does not make things difficult for us. He grants us the power and strength to attend even in the early hours of the morning.

Thus, we must seek the strength and determination from Him. We must ask Allah ta'ala to fulfil our sleep even if it is less, so that we are able to partake in the gathering. Through His help, we will be inclined towards implementing the laws of Allah ta'ala and the Sunnah.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
