This world is a place of effort. We have been commanded to obey the Prophet ﷺ and this is how we should spend our day. Each day we should make a promise not to disobey Allah ta'ala and His Messenger. This is because abstaining from the disobedience of Allah ta'ala is the essence of all deeds. If we are worshipping but disobeying, then we are failing. Our worship is of no benefit if we are sinning alongside.
A Muttaqi is he who fulfils the obligations whilst abstaining from sins. He is the truly successful person.
All lifelong we chase provisions and accumulate assets. We strive to achieve a high position and status in society, yet, we forget the true purpose of this life. In reality, if we depart the world in such a way, we will leave empty handed.
Allah ta'ala tests us through challenges and various fitna to assess whether we protect ourselves from sins. Sins consume our good deeds and it is our duty to refrain from sins and those actions which Allah ta'ala has forbade us from committing.
How to refrain from sin?
The real achievement of life is to abstain from sin. We have been granted the resources to abstain from sin and it is achievable through acquiring fear. If we have fear of Allah ta'ala, we will abstain from sin.
Allah ta'ala sent us the Quran and the Messengers to take lessons from and to instil fear within us. Unfortunately, we do not take heed and we still sin, which is why Allah ta'ala has granted us Himself. Allah ta'ala is closer to us than our jugular vein, yet, we still disobey Him. He is with us at all times and this is our security.
We have been given the knowledge that He is close to us, yet, this does not reflect our actions. This is because we do not hold the certainty which proves our belief in His closeness.
If we developed the emotion that Allah ta'ala is watching us, we would never commit a sin.
Those who develop this awareness, become part of the AwliyahAllah and they will not face any fear or grief in both worlds.
We must follow the path which Allah ta'ala has prescribed for developing this emotion. In return, it will help us to refrain from sin.
How to develop this feeling?
By performing dhikr morning and evening. The Sheikh prescribes dhikr as a cure so that the student is made aware that Allah ta'ala is watching him. One cannot attain this emotion without being in the company of the Sheikh.
Hadhrat Abdur Rahman Radiyallahu Anhu narrates in Tabrani Shareef that Nabi ﷺ was given revelation in his house regarding the following verse.
"And patiently stick with those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His pleasure." [18:28]
Allah ta'ala commanded the Prophet ﷺ to visit the company of the companions. The noble companions had dishevelled hair and were facing poverty. They had not eaten anything for a while and were not fully clothed.
Nabi ﷺ approached them and thanked Allah ta'ala for such a group of companions.
The noble Sahabah remembered Allah ta'ala due to their love for Him and did not complain about their personal situations. They did not beg, rather they were thankful of their situations. They recognised that they had the greatest treasure which is the name of Allah ta'ala.
This is also how the WaliAllah live and in return, they are rewarded with the emotion of Allah ta'ala's presence. Thus, they do not commit sins. Their mission of life remains to please Allah ta'ala.
Here, we learn that one cannot attain success from dhikr alone. He is required to connect himself with a Sheikh. Allah ta'ala sent the Prophet ﷺ to the group of companions and their dhikr was only completed through his ﷺ company. Only through the focus of a teacher does a student attain success.
We also learn that dhikr performed in the company of a Sheikh is what grants a person the acknowledgement that Allah ta'ala is watching him. The company of the Sheikh is necessary and dhikr performed in his company grants a unique effect to the student.
Similarly, we must also perform dhikr morning and evening with steadfastness no matter which circumstances of life we are facing.
The Sahabah were transformed in the company of the Prophet ﷺ and not due to any special worship they performed. They were given protection due to his company. They have been praised by Allah ta'ala Himself due to the company of the Prophet ﷺ.
Reformation occurs when the thought of a sin does not cross a person's mind and the heart does not desire to sin.
An impure and incorrect thought is the root of sin. Sins are developed from the mind, for example, by one who reminisces over his previous sins and gains enjoyment over it even though he may have shunned these sins. This is from the evil temptations and whispers of Shaytan.
When we are faced with these evil thoughts, we must recite 'Astagfirullah' constantly. In return, the evil thought will not spoil us nor compel us to sin. Rather, we will be purified. The least we can do is take similar action to save ourselves from sins.
We must sit in the company of the Sheikh and perform dhikr with the intention of acquiring Allah ta'ala's awareness.
The pious predecessors have said that a person's dhikr is of true benefit to him when it distances him from sin. He may be wretched and hungry, yet, he will bear all difficulties and abstain from all sin.
Success is based on how much we love the Sunnah and how much love we have for practicing it. The successful one is he who obeys the laws of Allah ta'ala and His Messenger ﷺ and abstains from sins alongside performing dhikr. Such people are given the title of Wilaayah.
لا خوف
Allah ta'ala rewards them by granting them a strong connection with Him whereby they feel no worry over their challenges. They feel satisfied and content over their personal difficulties and problems.
