Who Will be Called to Jannah First?

Hadhrat Ibn Abbas Radiyallaha anhu narrated that those people who performed dhikr in every circumstance of life, will be the first people to enter Paradise. The condition is that they constantly remembered Allah ta'ala no matter what.

والذاكرين الله كثيرا والذاكرات أعد الله لهم مغفرة وأجرا عظيما

"..and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so – for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward." [33:35]

Such people will be forgiven and they will earn a great reward. As they are the first to enter Paradise, they will receive their rewards swiftly too.

If we fail to remember Him, we have fallen prey to our desires. In reality, the glory of a believer, is that he is never detached from dhikr.

One should remain engaged in dhikr in every situation. This can be defined in three ways.

A person should engage in dhikr during every moment of time, whether it is morning, evening or afternoon.

A person should engage in dhikr during every physical condition, whether he is facing poverty or he is wealthy, whether he is sick or healthy.

A person should engage in dhikr with consistency. It should be his daily practice. He should not take shortcuts or days off. The pious predecessors have stated that being steadfast is superior to achieving miracles.

Such a person who adheres to all three conditions, will be the first to enter Paradise. Allah ta'ala will make his life easy for him in this world. He will have no sorrows and concerns and he will be happy and satisfied. Allah ta'ala will also increase his status in the world.

How to attain these conditions?

To master a certain profession or a skill, one is required to learn from the master of the trade or a teacher who is learned in that field. Similarly, we require a teacher for spiritual guidance and to become close to Allah ta'ala. We must learn dhikr from a Kaamil Sheikh, otherwise one cannot succeed.

If we do not implement the principles which Allah ta'ala has granted to get near to Him, then we cannot become close to Him. We must have a desire to perform dhikr along with fulfilling these three conditions. If one is unable to complete the entire dhikr which has been prescribed to him, he should perform a little at least.

Hadhrat Ali Radiyallahu Anhu never abandoned the prescription given to him by Nabi ﷺ even when he faced severe hardship. He was steadfast upon it.

Without dhikr, there is no success. If we fail to understand the importance of dhikr, we have fallen prey to Shaytan's trap.

We must find a Kaamil Sheikh. A Kaamil Sheikh is he who is qualified to teach you dhikr and enable you to implement these three conditions. He will improve you, assess you and be stern with you. If he is not able to fulfil this criteria, then one should not take him as a Sheikh.

Before taking Bay'ah, we must understand the purpose behind this action. Performing an action without an objective will never grant a person success.

It is not enough to merely take Bay'ah from a Sheikh without actually forming a connection with him and without progressing spiritually through his company.

Hadhrat Junaid Baghdadi Rahmatullahi Alayh states that one who has not adopted a Sheikh, has taken Shaytan as his Sheikh. One can never attain success by performing dhikr alone. He cannot tread the path of spirituality alone, otherwise nafs and Shaytan will overwhelm him and cause him to fail.

Those who give incorrect commentary of the deen, are those who have not submitted themselves to a teacher and failed to visit the Khankah. They became deviated. They trusted themselves and considered themselves better than others. They studied great books of Tafseer, however, it did not benefit them. Rather, their knowledge became dangerous for them and they were attacked by Shaytan. They became the cause of disunity and discord amongst the deen.

On other hand, one has a pleasant experience reading the Tafsir of those scholars who attached themselves to a waliAllah and spent time in the Khankah. Their knowledge and method of issuing Fatawah are also unique.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement.
