Bayan on Eid-ul-Fitr

Today is the day of reward. Allah ta'ala will announce for us either a reward or a punishment. It is Sunnah to pray Eid Salah in an open field. Allah ta'ala will make an announcement and it is heard by everyone besides Mankind and Jinn. In the Hereafter, we will gather for reckoning in an open field too.

Today, is also the day of decision. Just like we await our results today, we will also await our outcome on the day of Qiyamah. Allah ta'ala allows us to experience an example of that now.

We are unaware of our results but the angels are fearful and are in suspense of our results.

Hadhrat Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه narrates,

’When the day of Eid al-Fitr [begins], the angels descend on earth, where they take their positions at access points of roads, calling out with a voice that is heard by the whole creation of Allah, except men and Jin, “O Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ, Come out to your most Noble and Gracious Lord, who grants much, and pardons the major sins”.

When they (the Ummah) proceed to their places of prayer, Allah, Exalted is He, says to His angels, “O My angels! What is the reward of a worker when he has done his work?”

So they (the angels) say, “Our Lord and Our Master! To receive his reward [for the work, in full]“.

So He [swt] says, “I call you to witness that, for their fasts [during Ramadan], and for their standing in prayer at night, I have made their reward My Pleasure, and my Forgiveness. Depart [from here], you are forgiven”’. [Lataif al-Ma’arif]

Here, Allah ta'ala questions and He answers Himself. Allah ta'ala is so generous. If He forgives us today, He will allow us to pass in the afterlife too.

In a Hadith in Tabrani Shareef, it is mentioned that Allah ta'ala conceals the sins of the people and then requests the angels to send them to Paradise. He swears by His glory that if His servant takes care of Him, He will protect him from the enemies and He will protect him and his children from ruin. He makes the angels witness that He will please His servants.

'Taking care of Allah ta'ala' refers to obeying Him through constantly remembering Him in our hearts. Such people are considered the people of intellect.

The world was created to remember Him which is why all the creation engage in dhikr. It is a shame that we take benefit from the world, yet we disobey Him. We shouldn’t make excuses to avoid performing dhikr. When we perform dhikr, Allah ta'ala remembers us. We will be protected from our enemies as well as our children due to our dhikr.

Allah ta'ala fulfils our supplications, however only He knows whether what we desire is good for us. We should be patient and He will grant us better. Allah ta'ala compensates for our supplications which were not accepted, by saving us from a calamity in the world. He also answers our prayers in a better form in the Hereafter. This is how He compensates.

Allah ta'ala promises that He will certainly fulfil our prayers. We complain and criticise Allah ta'ala and this is how we lose our faith. Our faith shouldn't be weak that if we do not receive what we desire, we stop praying. We should leave all our affairs to Him and we should rely upon Him.

We should seek His help and hold complete belief in Him. This is how He will assist us. We must maintain our connection with Him even if our supplications are not accepted.

Allah ta'ala assesses whether we fulfilled the duty of Ramadan - to become a Muttaqi and become purified. Our life should have been transformed. In the same way, Allah ta'ala will account us in the Hereafter to see whether we fulfilled our duty of life and whether we worked hard and understood the purpose of this month. We should assess how much Taqwa has been developed within us during Ramadan and we should seek forgiveness for not fulfilling the purpose of Ramadan.

We should take Allah ta'ala's instructions seriously and take heed from the punishments given to the previous nations.

Allah ta'ala gave us health, wealth and young age so that we may fulfil our prayers five times a day. This is what will help us in the grave instead of our worldly assets.

During this life, we chased the unlawful things. These things will grant us no benefit in the Hereafter. Allah ta'ala granted us a purpose in this world and he granted us worldly resources and provisions. We should enjoy our food as a reward from Allah ta'ala, however, we must pray to Him five times a day and fulfil our duty.

If we seek forgiveness today for our past, Allah ta'ala will grant us Paradise and He will befriend us.

Allah ta'ala is so merciful that He embraces even the most severe sinners. He holds the sinful people beloved to Him in anticipation that they will return to Him.

We chase the world and worldly connections, although it will soon betray us. Thus, we should focus on befriending Allah ta'ala in this world. The way to do this, is to repent. We should make a promise to pray five times prayer and repent for the times we missed prayers in congregation. In return, Allah ta'ala becomes pleased with us.

If we repent today Allah ta'ala, not only will forgive us, He will veil our sins in the world and we will be respected regardless.

“A believer will be brought to his Almighty Lord on the Day of Resurrection until He places His veil over him and makes him confess to his sins, saying: Do you acknowledge your sins? The believer will say: My Lord, I do acknowledge them. Allah will say: I concealed them for you in the world and today I forgive you for them. Then, he will be given the record of his good deeds. [Muslim Shareef]

This person will then be sent to Paradise. If we make friendship with Allah ta'ala today, He will conceal our sins and He will assist us.

We have been forgiven, so we should be grateful to Allah ta'ala and promise that we will establish five times prayer. In return, He will increase us in blessings when we are thankful to Him.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
