Bayan Episode 37 - The Last Asharah in Bradford

We have been granted this month in order to rectify ourselves. One worship of this month is that a person can closely analyse his personal habits and lifestyle. This is the main purpose of this month.

Fasting refers to abstaining from all sins and wrongdoing to others. Unless we ensure this, we have earned nothing from our fast besides hunger and thirst. We must control our habits and self-control is difficult, therefore, Allah ta'ala granted us thirty days to practice this. Hunger and thirst is not the objective of fasting. In reality, fasting teaches us that committing sins ruins our fast.

A person's heart, eyes and tongue should all be fasting. We should spend our entire lives like this as this is our objective of life. We must please Allah ta'ala before we depart this world in order to receive benefit in the Hereafter.

What causes Allah ta'ala's pleasure?

In a Hadith in Abu Dawud Shareef it is stated that, soon this world will be destroyed and all creation will be gathered in front of Allah ta'ala. The most beloved in the sight of Allah ta'ala on the day of Qiyamah will be the one with excellent character.

This unique worship is not dependant upon a prayer mat, nor prostration, nor knowledge and nor physical worship. This worship should be our target and we must try to achieve it.

Whosoever’s character is good, his Hajj, fasting and prayer is good. This is because the soul of worship is kept in one's character.

Unfortunately, our character is our worst personal trait as we do not work hard upon it. We seek to take revenge and we display anger towards people. In reality, we have been granted the ability of performing worship so that we can improve and perfect our character.

Character and conduct is the most important feature of life. Whoever has perfected his character, has received the taste as well as all the good results from his worship.

The reward for possessing good character is very unique. Some people will receive a lower rank in Paradise and others will achieve a higher rank. The higher the rank, the better. Those who had beautiful character, will receive a high level Paradise as they were upon the truth. They are such people who take the blame in order to end arguments and disputes. They lowered themselves for the sake of Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala will grant them a high level Paradise in return.

Those with good character also have a high status in this world. Not through wealth, rather through inner satisfaction and contentment in life. They have no sorrow or pain inside. They experience no burden as they never oppose or violate anyone.

Ramadan teaches us that the more we display good character during fasting, the more reward we will receive for our fast.

We have been given thirty days to initiate good actions and stop wrongdoing. If we practice now, it will become a habit for us.

If a person fasts properly, his house becomes Paradise, as Satanic influences are removed. Through proper fasting, hatred, jealousy and anger are eliminated. Thus, the arguments and disputes end and love is generated between the husband and wife. When character is improved, a person is conscious of fulfilling the rights of others. Rather, he will give beyond the rights which are due. He seeks to please Allah ta'ala through His creation.

Allah ta'ala has granted us resources to please Him. When we help someone in need, we receive happiness which a thousand Tahajjud could not grant us. When we seek to eliminate the anxieties and difficulties from others and cause them happiness, we are engaged in a very great form of worship. In return, we have pleased Allah ta'ala.

This is the month of generosity and Allah ta'ala is making us practice this during this month. We should seek opportunities to spend on others with our money, time and energy.

If we work hard to abstain from discord and quarrelling in Ramadan, our house will be full of blessings and we will be given the ability to sustain it for the rest of the year. It will then be a part of our life. This month has been given to help us develop good habits. Such believers who adopt these traits, will be given a high status in Paradise.

Ramadan has taught us to calm down, suppress our desires and make up with those who have detached from us. If we humble ourselves, Allah ta'ala will elevate us.

Allah ta'ala has given great rights to the neighbours, so we should avoid giving pain and distress to our neighbours. Tazkiyah teaches us to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of others and it teaches us to spend on others. We should distribute love and goodness towards others and this is the message of Ramadan.

We gain spiritual enhancement by sitting in the company of our Sheikh. We should continue this act throughout the year.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
