There are two types of people. Some have good understanding and awareness. Thus, they have a good mind-set and they know what is right and wrong. Those who are aware, are conscious of what will give them loss and benefit.
On the other hand, there are others who do not have awareness or knowledge. They may be strong and affluent in society, however, because they are unaware of their own loss and benefit, everything they possess is a waste.
The one with knowledge and understanding, even if he doesn't possess worldly things, yet, he is aware of what is beneficial for him and what will lead him to loss, he is far superior to the one who has materialistic things.
Hadhrat Anas رضي الله عنه narrates in Mishkat Shareef that Allah ta'ala states that the beauty of Islam, is that it creates an understanding within a person of what is wrong and right.
To understand that you are committing wrong is a great blessing. Islam allows an individual to become conscious of what will lead him to loss or benefit. Out of his wisdom, one then refrains from what grants him loss.
A person who accepts Islam with a sincere heart, his faith will never allow him to do those actions which will grant him loss. A Muslim who hasn't developed this understanding of what is wrong and right, must pull himself together.
We should all develop this awareness within us and distance ourselves from what does not benefit.
What benefits us?
Islam teaches us that whichever action we perform, our Hereafter should be improved through it. We should perform those type of actions.
This world is a place of attraction. Islam teaches us not to become diverted by this glam and glitter. Rather, we should focus upon the Hereafter by performing those actions which benefit us in the Hereafter and take us closer to Allah ta'ala in the world.
We should spend our life constantly assessing whether our decisions are based upon what is beneficial for our Hereafter. We should accept the deed which gives benefit for the Hereafter and rejects the actions which grants us loss.
If we make this our foundation in every avenue of life, then we have gained the light of Islam.
This is the hard work which we must strive for.
There is a Hadith in Ibn Hibban Shareef which mentions that the person who fulfils the five pillars of Islam, he will be amongst the martyrs and the truthful ones in the Hereafter. The condition is that he must obey Allah ta'ala and His Rasul ﷺ alongside his actions.
Hajj is a great worship. Nabi ﷺ stated, "Whoever has the provisions and the means to convey him to Allah's House and he does not perform Hajj, then it does not matter if he dies as a Jew or a Christian." [Tirmidhi Shareef]
If we fulfil the criteria of Hajj being incumbent upon us and we do not have a valid excuse to remain behind, we must perform Hajj without delay. If we delay it, there is a burden upon us for the rest of the year as death may arrive to us at any time and such a person may be destroyed.
What is the obedience to the Prophet ﷺ?
To accept what he gives and to abandon what he has instructed one to abandon. We must imitate him in all aspects of out life. Such a person will be raised with the martyrs and the truthful ones.
When one implements the Sunnah, he gains an understanding of what is beneficial for him and what is detrimental for him. Without the Sunnah, the light will not enter a person and he will not be able to practice Islam. With the emulation of the Sunnah, a person is able to distinguish between right and wrong.
If one does not have the understanding and fails to selects the right decision for his Hereafter, he is in need of a guide. In his company, the first thing which is developed within a person, is the awareness of what is good and what is wrong.
Thereafter, the student works hard and takes the steps towards the good. He abandons the wrong and makes effort to distance from it.
Ramadan grants us this message so we should correct our lives and bring the knowledge and awareness in our lives.
May Allah grant us success in this effort and grant us the awareness and understanding.
