Jewels of Ramadhan 2025 - Episode 17

In Tasawwuf, the first condition for success is to strive and work hard. Without effort, the Saalik attains nothing. The human beings biggest hurdle is his own desires and to crush his desires he must work hard. This is called Tazkiayh. The biggest weapon for one to fight with his desires, is to perform Mujahadah, hard work.

If one does not work hard in the path of Allah ta'ala, he will not be shown the path by Allah ta'ala. The definition of Mujahadah mentioned by the pious predecessors is not quantity, for example, performing abundant worship and remaining awake at night. Rather, Mujahadah refers to being steadfast in the Naqshbandi order. This is why the Mashaikh do not prescribe too much dhikr. They prescribe dhikr according to the students lifestyle and his circumstances of life. However, the student should be consistent with his dhikr. It is wrong to begin an action and then cease the action after a while. Allah ta'ala is unhappy with this habit.

We should be punctual upon the prescription of dhikr granted to us by our Sheikh. Tasbih Fatima was granted to Hadhrat Fatimah & Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه by Nabi ﷺ. Even during the most difficult days, they remained steadfast upon this prescription.

This is the great path to attain Allah ta'ala's love. We must uphold His principles, otherwise, it means that we are living according to our own desires. We cannot pick and chose and perform whatever we want and when we desire.

We should perform our dhikr at the time our Sheikh has prescribed. As a result, the impact of this action will be very immense.

A person becomes occupied during the day, however, if he performs his dhikr during Tahajjud time before Fajr, it will enable him to remain steadfast. One cannot be negligent at this time as he is generally not occupied with worldly affairs. Even if a person is on a journey during this time and he is not able to fulfil his entire prescription of dhikr, but he performs a portion, this is considered steadfastness and he will be rewarded for completing the entire prescription.

We should remain wary of being steadfast in our actions, otherwise, we will not gain the spirituality of remaining steadfast and we will not be able to defeat our desires. We may perform dhikr, however, we won't be successful and we will succumb to evil temptations.

The pious predecessors state that a person who remains steadfast upon his good actions, is greatly superior to the one who displays miracles. The angels welcome those who were steadfast after they depart this world.

The meaning of being steadfast is to crush and fight our desires. This is how to weaken our own desires.

We should fill our sheets in properly and we should not miss a day. This displays our steadfastness. We should not cheat or take shortcuts otherwise, we are only deceiving ourselves and we are lying and wasting our time. In the Hereafter, such people will incur great loss.

The real student adheres to his Sheikh's instructions carefully. We must work hard upon our prescription and be steadfast. If we are struggling, we must contact our Sheikh to request adjustments in our dhikr to ensure steadfastness.

Without punctuality and steadfastness, one cannot be near to Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala assists a person who works hard and is steadfast in his actions.

We must attend the dhikr gatherings in the morning and the evening. If we are unable to sit for the entire duration due to a valid excuse or work, we should sit for a short duration daily for the sake of being steadfast in our actions. We will then be given rewards as though we sat for the entire duration of the gathering. Such a person will be granted mercy from Allah ta'ala.

Ramadan is teaching us steadfastness and regularity. If we are lazy, then we are wasting time and Allah ta'ala does not grant such people light and spirituality.

Suhoor is a special blessing from Allah ta'ala and we must partake in it even if we consume one date. This is so that we can ensure regularity in this worship of suhoor. There will be blessings in our food and the angels will supplicate for us.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
