Allah ta'ala has given us a target which is to develop the love for Allah ta'ala.
We are easily impacted by our worldly situations, thus, the effects of the world easily overtake us such as laziness and negligence. Consequently, a person begins to distance himself from Allah ta'ala. If we are far from him, it is our loss and not His. Allah ta'ala does not want us to lose out which is why He has granted us Ramadan. During this month, we are given the opportunity to develop the love for Allah ta'ala.
Those who already have love for Allah ta'ala should strengthen that love. During this month, a person should have faith in Allah ta'ala and after developing faith, he should fear Him. After developing fear, he should implement good deeds which are accepted by Allah ta'ala. Thereafter, Allah ta'ala announces that such a person has become His beloved.
We already have faith, so now we should develop fear. Fasting teaches us to fear Allah ta'ala. True fear refers to upholding the fast and not breaking the fast in isolation. This adherence is due to one having awareness of Allah ta'ala and this fear is present within a person throughout Ramadan although it may not have be present throughout the rest of the year.
How do we develop this faith?
Love is the root of acquiring fear and recognition of Allah ta'ala. If you have love for Allah ta'ala, it means that you possess a unique type of fear as this fear stems from love whereby a person does not wish to displease Allah. It is not that type of fear where a person fears that Allah ta'ala will throw him in to Hellfire. Fearing out of love is the essence of faith and what a believer needs.
There are many ways to acquire His love. Some strive and work hard and engage in lengthy worship, however, not everybody can do this. We all have different desires and different energy levels. Hence, Allah ta'ala has prescribed a route to acquire his love.
When it comes to worldly love, the love soon erodes after a while as love for worldly things is temporary. However, Allah ta'ala's love is permanent and it is eternal. Therefore, we should aquire His love permanently by acquiring a permanent love for Him.
He has prepared the route for this and that is to find the company of someone who already has the love for Allah ta'ala. His love for Allah ta'ala is permanent.
The WaliAllah has strong love for Allah ta'ala and this love keeps increasing. When we love the WaliAllah, we will be granted permanent love for him and for Allah ta'ala.
Nabi ﷺ stated that when a person loves another person but cannot reach his status and perform the deeds he performs, he should not worry because in the afterlife, he will be raised with whoever he loves.
However, we must love the individual for Allah ta'ala's sake and not due to any worldly connections and benefit. We should meet him, befriend him and serve him solely for the sake of Allah ta'ala.
Due to our connection with him, we will receive the mercy of Allah ta'ala. Even if we make a mistake in the world or we cannot reach the pious persons rank, we will still be raised with this person. This is the easiest route to gain Paradise especially if we cannot perform pious deeds and work hard.
We should seek the company of the pious and attain Allah ta'ala's love through it. We should remain attached to him once we find him.
Nabi ﷺ taught us to supplicate to Allah ta'ala saying, "Oh Allah, grant me Your love and the love for the one who loves You already."
There is a hadith in Tabrani Shareef that some people's deeds and practice will not be that strong, however, in the Hereafter, their faces will be illuminated, thrones made of pearls and marble will be prepared for them and their seats will be elevated and decorated. They will be seated on the thrones and all of mankind will witness them. Thereafter, it will be announced that they are those people in the world who loved those who loved Allah ta'ala.
We should practice this deed today. As soon as we have love for a Sheikh and take his company, sins are eradicated and one easily attains Taqwa.
Thirty days of Ramadan have been given to us to attain Taqwa, however, sitting in the company of a waliAllah grants immediate achievement such that, even one moment in his company, is better than a hundred years of sincere worship.
If you sit in the company of a WaliAllah and you have the desire to have his love, you will immediately become near to Allah ta'ala. Thereafter, the Sheikh loves the student and they both wish to aquire Allah ta'ala's nearness. He who's love is greater, will be closest to Allah ta'ala.
In another Hadith, it is mentioned that whoever loves someone else for the sake of Allah ta'ala, he will be given shade under the throne of Allah ta'ala. In reality, when you love for Allah ta'ala's sake, it is due to the person taking you close to Allah ta'ala.
The message of Ramadan is to develop the love for Allah ta'ala. We should generate it during Ramadan and increase it in Ramadan and throughout the rest of the year.
We should ask Allah ta'ala to introduce us to a pious person and have true love for our teacher. This love never diminishes but rather, it increases. We should always strengthen this relationship between teacher and student as this relationship is never ending. If you have love for the AwliyahAllah, you will be with them in the Hereafter. Allah ta'ala will save you through the friendship of this pious person.
A person receives attacks from Shaytan and nafs upon this path which try to weaken the connection between the Sheikh and teacher. Thus, we should maintain this connection amd Allah ta'ala will grant us glad tidings for those who tread the path to His nearness.
