All sins are dangerous. Thus, we should keep assessing our mistakes.
There are three types of people. The first person has an understanding of deen and faith, but due to laziness and ignorance, he is distant from deen. He does not fulfil the five pillars of Islam and he practices whenever he desires.
The second group pray and recite Quran and try to practice the deen. They are the religious people. The third group are the high grade people - the worshippers and the pious people like the AwliyahAllah and the Muttaqeen.
The second group of believers are considered dangerous because they commit many sins alongside practicing. They consider themselves pious whilst harbouring malice and hatred for others within their heart. They gossip about others, they lie, seek revenge and they quarrel.
Despite these sins, they hope to be accepted in the court of Allah ta'ala. They are under the impression that they are forgiven due to the worship they perform. In reality, these people are considered lower than the first group of people. This is because the first group do not consider themselves to be pious.
Hadhrat Khawajah Moin-ud-din Chishtiرحمة الله عليه stated that the sign of an unfortunate and wretched person is that he commits sins and alongside that, he has hopes that he is accepted in the court of Allah ta'ala.
He considers himself forgiven and this is because Shaytan has presented his sins to be insignificant in his eyes and has buried those sins. This is why such a person has no concern over his sins like oppression and anger.
The believer has a unique status. The true believer is the one from whose tongue and hand the people are safe. Peace emits from him and he doesn't give loss and difficultly to others. In fact, non Muslims benefit from him and seek protection from him. These are the third group of people like the AwliyahAllah.
We were created to worship to Allah ta'ala. We restrict ourselves to physical worship and consider it a great achievement. However, if our objective was truly physical worship, then Shaytan was a great worshipper and he didn't achieve anything.
In reality, we were created to avoid disobeying Allah ta'ala alongside our worship. This is what makes us different to Shaytan and this is what Allah ta'ala expects from us. Only then we will be accepted in the court of Allah ta'ala, otherwise we are incurring loss and we are deceived.
Allah ta'ala is not in need of our worship. If a believer does not offer voluntary prayers yet, he recites 'SubhanAllah' with a honest heart, then his worship is accepted in the court of Allah ta'ala.
Fulfilling the five pillars of Islam is enough and makes one worthy of Paradise as long as he refrains from sin alongside. We must fight our nafs every second in order to refrain from sin and disobedience. This is the biggest effort expected from us and what makes us accepted in the court of Allah ta'ala. If we sin alongside worship, then all our worship will be destroyed and wasted.
The one who truly understands the mission of his life, changes the direction of his effort. He will die hungry, but he will not consume unlawful sustenance. He will endure many tests, but he will not lie. He will forgive the biggest enemy and swallow his anger. This is considered true worship. In fact, the act of swallowing anger is so great that it causes a person to become a Wali Allah.
Our heart should be free from jealousy, anger and malice otherwise, we will not be forgiven. We should possess a pure heart and avoid causing pain and difficulty to others.
To perform abundant worship is an easy feat, however, to rid ourselves from backbiting, lying and hatred is difficult. Thus, we shouldn't fall in to the trap of abundant worship. Rather, we should rectify our inner selves, otherwise we will take the form of animals and we will rise with the oppressors.
We should never consider ourselves forgiven, otherwise we will become wretched. Rather, we must assess how much we have reduced our sins. Whoever desires goodness in this life and the Hereafter should eliminate the disobedience of Allah ta'ala.
From now onwards, we should try our best to abstain from sin with renewed effort and sincerity. When we make a continuous effort to abstain from sin, whether we succeed or fail, Allah ta'ala will accept our efforts and admit us to Paradise.
How do we make effort?
The AwliyahAllah are the deputies of the Prophet and they perform the work of the Prophets. They purify the hearts of the believers.
We must visit a teacher who will teach us to make effort. Those who try to practice deen without a teacher are insincere as they are unable to extract their spiritual diseases alone. Those who believe that they are not in need of a teacher have suppressed this principle of deen and Shaytan has made them a hypocrite.
We must crush our desires and our pride and we should submit ourselves to our teacher in order to become a true student. We should blindly follow him and avoid criticising him. We should correct our beliefs and learn from him. We should have manners and accept our mistakes without trying to justify them. We should not question our teacher because whatever he instructs his students is based upon wisdom and it is for our own rectification.
We should work hard upon our deficiencies and sins alongside our worship. This is the way to become pious like the saints of the past. They saved themselves from the disobedience of Allah ta'ala.
If we lie or backbite, we should fulfil a self- imposed fine and ask our teacher for the cure for our disease. Thereafter, the Sheikh prays for the student.
Instead of visiting the AwliyahAllah seeking to fulfil our desires and requests of the world, we should visit him to learn his character and learn how he became close to Allah ta'ala
Once we make a connection with the teacher, we are required to work hard and improve ourselves. Imitating the Sheikh is the root to our success. We should live our life according to his teachings. This is the way to become pious and attain goodness as the Sheikh is the fountain of light. Furthermore, the Sheikh distributes his qualities when the student sits in his company.
We should listen to the words of the AwliyahAllah attentively and trust what they are saying as they are given inspiration within their hearts by Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala selects them and sends them to the creation to improve the generation. Their wise words are extracted from Quran and hadith and Allah ta'ala directly inspires their heart.
