Nabi ﷺ gave glad tidings about this gathering 1,400 years ago. He ﷺ said, “No group of people sit together to remember Allah, except that when they stand to leave, it is said to them: Stand up! Allah has certainly forgiven your sins and replaced your bad deeds with good ones.” (Ṭabarānī).
We did not have the capacity to attend this gathering. Rather, Allah ta'ala created the passion within us as He desired to save us from Hellfire.
Allah ta'ala created His creation with a purpose. Allah ta'ala is connected to His creation and the creation holds many qualities. Metal and wood have individual qualities from which Mankind utilises and benefits from. Similarly, Mankind possesses characteristics but fail to recognise themselves.
Our standard of accomplishment are regarding worldly things such as scientific and technological achievements and advancements. We have elevated and preferred those worldly and materialistic things which will perish. In reality, everything in this world is temporary which means the world holds zero status.
On the other hand, the qualities which Allah ta'ala has placed within human beings will not diminish.
There is a characteristic of Allah ta'ala which is Al Baaqi - The Everlasting One.
Allah ta'ala gave a splash of His magnificence to the human being. He created us separate from each other and such that we will not perish. We may die physically, however, the believer never dies. He is transferred from this world to another realm. Thereafter, his condition changes. If he achieved his objective of life, he remains alive.
Those who recognise Allah ta'ala do not chase the temporary world. They chase the eternal things. We should train our minds to remember that this world is not our final abode so we shouldn’t be overwhelmed by love for the world. This is our sickness. We should live in the world according to our necessities. We can either earn what is permanent and limitless or earn the world which is fleeting and perishable.
Unfortunately, we have lowered ourselves with the animals as we have not recognised what we are here for. If we do not recognise our purpose, we will become like the animals who live for their desires.
We shouldn’t be impressed by those of no faith and chase after their advancements whilst degrading ourselves. Our career path is the Hereafter and our emphasis should be placed on advancement and progression for the Hereafter. We must use this world as a means to earn for the Hereafter and we should not attach ourselves to it.
If we wish to have the love of the world removed, we must work hard. Our worldly possessions are our temporary needs but will not depart with us to the Hereafter. It is essential for a believer to be reminded of this.
The acts of worship are prescribed to us so that we can recognise what is everlasting. Our prayers will become everlasting if we pray knowing that we are preparing for the everlasting Hereafter. This is the way to benefit from our prayers.
Our worship is wasted if we are not focused on the Hereafter because we are worshiping for the greed and love of the world. We worship due to maintaining our status, fame or recognition.
How shall we improve our lives and come out of the life of destruction to the everlasting?
We should strive for what is eternal and we can only attain this quality with taqwa. Every act of worship which Allah ta'ala has prescribed, is for attaining taqwa. Taqwa is the complete deen of Islam and this is the quality which will drive us towards actions which are everlasting. With taqwa, our actions will be performed for His pleasure and for the everlasting abode.
A person who has not adopted taqwa, has not advanced towards his journey to the Hereafter and can not be removed from the trap of the world.
We must illuminate our deeds and bring them to the level of acceptance via taqwa so that we can earn paradise in the Hereafter through them.
In reality, every prayer we perform invites us towards taqwa, but we bypass taqwa and waste our deeds.
When a person fears Allah ta'ala, he attains taqwa and becomes a Muttaqi which leads him to Paradise. We should develop a loving fear for Him just as a person fears to disappoint and displease the one he loves. Allah ta'ala is one we should reconcile with and befriend.
Whoever adopts this fear of Allah ta'ala will not sin even in private and this is considered taqwa. He is always aware of Allah ta'ala out of his love for Him.
The opposite of a Muttaqi is a hypocrite. Hypocrisy takes a person towards disbelief. If you don't have taqwa within you, your hypocrisy will increase.
How does a person become a Muttaqi?
The love for materialism will not be removed from our hearts without adopting taqwa, no matter how much we try and no matter how much we worship.
Spiritual diseases and love of the world are only removed via the method which is prescribed by Allah ta'ala.
Allah ta'ala's love and taqwa won't be found anywhere and nor in any worship. Rather, it is attained via the company of the truthful people. The truthful person is he who's private and public state is the same. He is not a hypocrite. He will not possess miracles or signs. Rather, he is truthful and sincere.
We must seek a truthful person. When a person has this desire for the truth and he is sincere, then Allah ta'ala opens up the way for him.
How to seek a truthful person?
A truthful person is he who reminds you of Allah ta'ala upon seeing Him. When you find him, then know that he is a WaliAllah.
We should be sincere and ask Allah ta'ala for His help. We should consider ourselves spiritually sick and then search for the guide. After developing this desire, we should sit in his company and accept our mistakes.
By sitting in his company and achieving taqwa, we are enabled to perform those deeds which are everlasting.
Abundant dhikr is not achievable via the tongue, rather, it is performed by the heart. The Naqshbandi teacher revives the seven lataa'if of the body - the seven points in the body which beat to Allah ta'ala's name.
We should correct our intentions in his company and we should engage in dhikr. Whoever corrects his intention becomes a Muttaqi and the one who performs dhikr has loved Allah ta'ala.
We should have love for the AwliyahAllah and avoid harbouring doubts towards them. The more we sit in their company, the more our heart opens up to the love of Allah ta'ala and the good qualities are transferred from the teacher to the student.
If we wish to be safe in this generation and earn Paradise, we should lower our pride and submit ourselves to a WaliAllah with the intention of improvement.
How to develop love for Allah ta'ala?
To develop taqwa, we require the love of Allah ta'ala. If we wish to be loved by Allah ta'ala, then we must practice the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. We should not seek what is compulsory or wajib and claim that imitating Sunnah isn't necessary. Rather, one earns the love of Allah ta'ala by adorning the garments of the Sunnah.
We should imitate the Prophet ﷺ out of our love for him and not consider any practice as insignificant. We should not feel ashamed in imitating, otherwise he will feel ashamed to intercede for us on Qiyamah. If we are mocked in the process, our status will be elevated.
If we wish our children to be improved, we must improve ourselves first.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these beneficial gems. Ameen
