No matter how weak a believer is, he always desires to improve himself, whether its leaving sins or improving his worship. He wishes to progress and attain a higher rank. We all have this target and this is a right of our faith, although many of us aren't successful in our aim. We fail to abstain from sin or even forming a habit of praying. We fail to improve ourselves.
We are very foolish for not attaining our objective of life. We should aim to return to Allah ta'ala with excellent deeds.
We all believe that we will die one day. No one can reject the reality of death. Wealth, strength, family and the doctor won't save and prevent us from death.
Nothing from this world will go with us after our death. Every thing in life is temporary. Even our clothes will be removed from us. If we will depart in this state and this is the reality of life, we should reflect over the way we are spending our life. We need to develop the awareness of the Hereafter and improve the way we spend our life.
Death is a reality so we shouldn't waste our time in this world. If we strive to become successful, Allah ta'ala will fulfil our desires and grant us goodness.
The solution for a successful life is to keep making effort. Allah ta'ala has granted us the resources in the world, so we should strive and always make some effort. Shaytan makes us give up, although it is easy to 'try.' Even making an intention is considered 'trying' and making an effort. When a person makes an intention with an honest heart, Allah ta'ala will help him to reach his end result. Without effort, one cannot become successful.
Allah ta'ala promises that when a person struggles and works hard, He will open multiple paths for him, including the path of His love, His nearness and His pleasure. He will show us multiples paths of success just by making a firm intention. Allah ta'ala will also assist us in leaving sins.
The smallest example of working hard is to intend. When we do this, Allah ta'ala's assistance arrives. Thus, we should intent to eliminate sins in our life, adopt the Sunnah and to become regular in praying Tahajjud.
After intention, we should take action and communicate with Allah ta'ala. Even if we are not able to complete a good deed, that deed is still recorded for us due to our effort of trying. When we try to do good, Allah ta'ala elevates a person to the highest level simply due to his effort.
If a person intends to rise for Tahajjud but he did not end up performing it and instead he woke up and recited the Kalimah,
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
the entire reward of Tahajjud will be granted to him.
A pious person isn't made through performing easy actions such as the compulsory acts of worship. The pious predecessors worked hard and sacrificed themselves for the sake of Allah ta'ala.
In reality, the five times prayers are to encourage us and make us disciplined. If these prayers were not obligated upon us, we wouldn't be punctual in any action. We should remove ourselves from the limitations of five times prayer and strive to improve our prayers by performing them according to their due right.
We should pray in such a way whereby we avoid thinking of worldly things during prayer. When we make an intention for achieving such a prayer, Allah ta'ala will open the doors of success for us. He will send us to the company of His friend through which we may be improved and guided. The first improvement attained via such company is in prayer. The student learns how to perform proper wudu and prayer and Allah ta'ala opens up doors after doors for him.
All of Allah ta'ala's love is contained in prayer itself. Thus, we should pray out of His love and not out of compulsion. We should at least try and be immersed in our prayers.
We should perform those actions which earn the love of Allah ta'ala. For example, acting upon the Sunnah is an act done for the love of Allah ta'ala.
We should fear Allah ta'ala to the extent that we are constantly analysing ourselves and what actions we are sending forth. Will they benefit us in the Hereafter?
Our partaking in the dhikr gathering is a proof of our effort. This is why Allah ta'ala announces our forgiveness after we depart from this gathering.
We should make a life plan as well as a daily plan. We should intend to eradicate the sins, make a target and then strive to fulfil it.
Allah ta'ala could've destroyed us but every day he grants us a new lease of life and an opportunity to become better day by day. We recite the dua upon rising daily. These duas were taught to us to alert us and help us to renew our pact to Allah ta'ala daily. Every day we should make a promise to be regular in attending the dhikr gathering. Allah ta'ala loves this promises as its an act out of love for the sake of Allah ta'ala. The angels bear witness to our partaking and Allah ta'ala accepts our requests via the angels.
We worry about worldly things which will not last, whilst having no concern for the permanent life. If we remove the concern for the world, we will have no stress in our life. Allah ta'ala will make us independent from these concerns and grant us the true concern for the Hereafter.
Visiting a wali Allah, sitting in his company and taking bay'ah from him are all efforts for the Hereafter as a student is struggling in the path of Allah ta'ala. In his company, a student intends to learn dhikr and prayer and abstain from sins.
Shaytan makes us complacent and satisfied with our current situations. This becomes the biggest hurdle which prevents us from making effort. For example, Shaytan feeds us excuses not to pray and this is how one becomes deluded.
When one is stuck in a sin and he doesn't try to abandon that sin, then consider that he is satisfied with that sin. Similarly, if a person doesn't imitate the Sunnah, or fails to pray in congregation, then he is satisfied with his condition. Such a person will not take heed.
We ask Allah ta'ala to show us the straight path multiple times during our prayers, (the path of following the Prophet ﷺ's path without any contamination), yet we fail to make an effort to try. We ask Allah ta'ala to save us from the accursed and those who have incurred His anger, yet, our lifestyle and our appearances are against the Sunnah. This shows our level of hypocrisy. We should make a firm intention to change our ways. In reality, a true believer is he who considers Nabi ﷺ to be most beloved to him than anything else and imitates him completely.
If we repent, Allah ta'ala will forgive our sins. We should make a promise to lead our lives according to the ways of the Prophet ﷺ and should not fear being mocked in the process.
We should not be satisfied with our level of prayers. We should strive beyond that to attain tranquillity and focus in our prayers. This is achieved only via the company of the pious people. The more we attain the company, the more we will witness positive changes within ourselves.
We should never be satisfied with our sins. Rather, we should always ask Allah ta'ala to remove us from that sin because the most dangerous person is he who is content with his sins and does not attempt to improve himself.
If one fails to practice the Sunnah, he should reflect over why he has abandoned it. If he abandons this opportunity for rewards then what kind of preparation is he doing for the Hereafter?
Each day we should aim to improve our self. A person can never be improved alone without being spiritually rectified by taking the hand of a Sheikh, particularly in this difficult era we are living in.
The first physical transformation we will experience when connecting our self to a sheikh is that it will become easy for us to physically implement the deen.
We should request Allah ta'ala to grant us a Sheikh who is compatible for us and someone who is physically near to us so that we can attain his company. Dark days of evil may appear, however, the teacher is the means of protection.
May Allah ta'ala make us from those people who make effort. Ameen
