Tonight is laylatul qadr. The entire Ramadan is full of blessings and mercy, but the essence of the final third are the odd nights.
We should perform those actions which are connected to laylatul qadr and consider this night to be laylatul qadr.
إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
"Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ sent this ˹Quran˺ down on the Night of Glory." [97:1]
No other previous Ummah attained this night. The Ummah is connected to the Quran and the Quran is connected to the Prophet ﷺ. Thus, the Quran and Nabi ﷺ are both essential for us. If we didn't have the Prophet ﷺ, we wouldn't have received this night.
The Quran was revealed by Allah ta'ala on this night. During this night, Allah ta'ala wanted us to reflect over our connection with the Quran as this night has been selected for the Quran and for the benefit of the Muslims.
The Quran has many effects and its effect are unique. The one who takes hold of the Quran, begins the journey of Taqwa. We can assess ourselves individually regarding our connection with the Quran - how much of the Quran we follow and how much our life is based on it.
If one follows the guidance of the Quran, his problems and difficulties are solved, individually, collectively and as a nation as well. We should perfect our relationship with Quran as the cure for everything is in the connection of the Quran.
Allah ta'ala used the nights of Ramadan to purify us and arrive to Allah ta'ala clean. Tonight, it is our last chance so it is a very valuable night.
Why has this moment been placed in the night and not the day?
The night is a veil which conceals and hides away. It becomes dark and silent and a section of people await this portion of the night.
During this night, the beloved of Allah ta'ala connects with His lord. Allah ta'ala desires to connect with His slave on this night and the slave desires to connect with Allah ta'ala.
The light present in the hearts of those who love Allah ta'ala is so great and much stronger than the light of the sun. Those homes in which the dhikr of Allah ta'ala takes place, the rays of that light reaches the heavens.
The beloveds of Allah ta'ala are desperate to detach from their beds during the night so that they can spread out their prayer mats and become close to Allah ta'ala. This is why the night of power was kept in the night so that a person's worship and connection with Allah ta'ala during this time remains hidden.
Allah ta'ala wishes us to meet His slave during this night. Allah ta'ala loves His creation and has created Paradise and ranks for them. It is out of love that He has granted us this night and He wishes to meet us in seclusion. Allah ta'ala desires to meet that slave who praises Him and has sacrificed his life for him and remembers Him abundantly.
This is not a minor night. It is very valuable. It is better than a thousand months. When a person prays today, it is as though he has prayed continuously for a thousand months. His worship and repentance are one thousand months worth.
We should repent to Allah ta'ala on this night instead of seeking worldly things, as this is the proper objective of this night. We have all been given an opportunity to repent from our sins and take the benefit of this night. Consequently, Allah ta'ala will grant us more than a thousand months of goodness.
"That night the angels and the ˹holy˺ spirit1 descend, by the permission of their Lord, for every ˹decreed˺ matter." [97:4]
The blessings of this night is that Allah ta'ala has selected the leader of the angels to descend with his cabinet. Each angel brings mercies, rewards and blessings.
Hadhrat Jibraeel عليه السلام descends and he has four green flags in his hand. He erects the Prophet ﷺ's flag at the four most holy places of the world. One at the Ka'bah Shareef, Baytul Maqdis, Mount Sinai and Madinatul Munawwarah.
Islam is superior until Qiyamah. This shows that we can seek to destroy it as much as we want, but this is the standard which will remain. We should sacrifice ourselves and not have fear in life. Challenges will come, but the successful ones are those who stand beneath the shade of these flags.
Hadhrat Jibraeel عليه السلام will then call his cabinet to gather in Makkatul Mukarramah and give them a duty to descend upon the homes of the Ummati and shake their hands. They are ordered to avoid the homes in which there is impurity, unlawful things, immodesty and pictures. Many homes will lose out today due to this.
How fortunate are those who engage in dhikr or listen to dhikr and the angels will descend and greet them. The sign of the angels greeting them, is that they will feel a coolness whilst they are engaging in dhikr and tears will flow from their eyes.
There's no limit to the goodness of this night and this cycle will continue until fajr when the angels will be called up.
When the angels return, the other angels question each other. "What did Allah ta'ala decide?" They will respond saying, "Allah ta'ala has forgiven the pious people and due to their intercession, Allah ta'ala has also forgiven the sinful people." Thereafter, the whole universe will sway with happiness upon their forgiveness.
Here, we see that a person is successful when he makes a connection with a friend of Allah ta'ala. Due to their intercession the sinful people are also forgiven.
When a person becomes pure, the veils and the locks of the heart are drawn back. The pious people see from their hearts. They keep their eyes closes as they remember Allah ta'ala. They always keep their gaze low.
The path of Allah ta'ala is not easy. You must crush your desires and face difficulties alongside and give up comfort and then you are given enjoyment. The wali Allah crushes his desires and he faces great challenges and hardships, yet he perseveres.
The more one discards sins, the quicker the veils are removed and the quicker he will arrive to his destination.
We should fight our desires. Tonight, all decisions and destinies will be decided. Either a person is successful or he is destined for Hellfire.
If a Sheikh requests his student for a favour, then the student experiences enjoyment all his life. This is the work of the lovers. The student is desperate to serve his Sheikh. He awaits the Sheikh's instructions and directions. This is the style of his love.
You must display excellent manners and respect towards your Sheikh and with this mannerism, you attain the nearness of Allah ta'ala.
