Who is Jannah for?

Hadhrat Abu Saeed رضي الله عنه narrates that some people recline on soft couches, they relax on comfortable mattresses and yet, they will be given a high level in Paradise. The companions were surprised, as this was the generation of poverty and hardship.

We think that hunger and extreme hardship takes us close to Allah ta'ala and causes us to earn paradise. But in this Hadith, Nabi ﷺ has explained, that it's not about being wealthy or poor. These such people must've done some hard work in the world to achieve that status in the Hereafter.

In reality, being wealthy and suppressing your Nafs, is a greater achievement for a person, over someone who is poor. This is because the poor person isn't required to crush his desires over his wealth.

To have wealth is not a bad thing and a wealthy person can still be a pious person. If someone has earned his money in a lawful manner, and he becomes wealthy, he spends his wealth on lawful things, then it becomes a blessing for him from Allah ta'ala.

If Allah ta'ala has granted you wealth, you should use your wealth in a good way; spending it on Halal things, assisting people and spending on the needy.

Furthermore, when Allah ta'ala grants you a blessing, you should make it apparent. If Allah ta'ala grants you wealth and you're wearing torn clothes, then you're being ungrateful to Allah ta'ala. If you wear good clothes out of habit and desire, then there's no problem because Allah ta'ala is beautiful and loves beautiful things.

Live according to what Allah ta'ala has provided you with, but without ostentation, otherwise you cannot attain a high level in Paradise.

Even during poverty, you may attain a high status by not displaying your poverty. Here Nabi ﷺ is explaining that we should control our desires in all circumstances, in poverty and affluence. We should have such a mind-set, that whatever we have, has been given to us by Allah ta'ala and whatever we do not have, Allah ta'ala has not given. Everything is for Allah and from Allah.

We should be satisfied even in poverty and we shouldn't be envious of the affluent people. There were such Mashaikh in our Silsilah who were wealthy, yet, achieved high ranks in the eyes of Allah ta'ala. Therefore, when a pious person reminds you of Allah ta'ala, we should accept them as a Wali without harbouring doubts due to their affluence. In reality, whoever reminds you of Allah ta'ala, is a Wali Allah even if they happen to be wealthy. This is the criterion.

It is Allah's Grace that He has made some of the pious people wealthy, but it does not mean that they carry the world in their heart. Rather, such pious people live humbly and much of their wealth is spent in the path of Allah ta'ala.
Whether you're poor or rich, the Dhikr of Allah ta'ala, will take you to a high level in Paradise. This is the message Nabi ﷺ wants to give us. If you're living comfortably in this life, and you perform Dhikr alongside which makes you grateful, then Allah ta'ala will purify you. Thus, you won't spend on unlawful things. You won't have love for your wealth, and you will distribute your wealth towards the poor and needy.

If you want to seek Allah ta'ala in this world, then seek the Wali Allah. This is why it is a blessing to seek a Sheikh in this world, as it means that you are seeking Allah ta'ala.

Whatever position you find yourself in, you should remember Allah ta'ala. The Dhaakir will have no restrictions in his life. Even if you face hurdles on this path, keep doing Dhikr and perform it the way your Sheikh has prescribed to you. Don't follow your Nafs and your opinions and avoid comparing with other students. Avoid harbouring doubts about your Sheikh. This will grant you the nearness of Allah ta'ala.
Even if you're a sinner or you make mistakes, perform the Dhikr of Allah. Hadhrat Mujaddid Alf Thaani Rahmatullahi alayh mentioned that Dhikr is the only action which cools the anger of Allah ta'ala. The Dhikr of Allah ta'ala will intercede for a person, which is why we should never abandon it, regardless of how we feel.

May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement.
