Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrates that Nabi ﷺ said, when a human commits a sin, the effect of that sin is absorbed by the heart. Similarly, when he performs a good deed, the heart absorbs the good deed. There is a big difference between both. When a person performs a good deed, the heart becomes illuminated through it, even if they are minor good deeds. This is why we shouldn't consider any good deed to be insignificant.
When a person commits a sin, a black dot appears on the heart. The more a person sins, the more it begins to spread.
For example, tiny drops of water may leak from a crack within your home. Over time, the drops slowly accumulate, and eventually, it causes the entire roof to collapse. Here, a small damage, lead to total destruction. Similarly, when a person commits sins repeatedly, it causes his heart to become severely blackened.
Allah ta'ala's anger descends upon the sinner due to this blackness and punishment and destruction arises due to it. The individual life of a person, as well as society, becomes corrupted. Where there is Allah ta'ala's anger, there is no Mercy. This is why there is disorder and corruption in society, despite the worship of Allah ta'ala being fulfilled.
We should stop considering our sins to be minor and we should analyse our internal selves and save ourselves and our families from sin. We should exert ourselves in this as much as we can. The mistake we make, is that we worship fervently, but we do not prevent sins alongside.
Without Allah ta'ala's Mercy, a person ends up fighting and bearing enmity with others. The children in his home become disobedient. He finds no peace and becomes devoid of blessings.
How to save ourselves from sin?
Allah ta'ala has prepared a beautiful solution for this, and this is to engage in His Dhikr. When a person remembers Allah ta'ala, his heart becomes purified.
Allah ta'ala receives no benefit, nor is He dependant upon our Remembrance. In fact, every particle in the universe and the angels already remember Allah ta'ala. Rather, Dhikr is performed for our own benefit, so that we can save ourselves from sin.
Those who are regular in Dhikr, morning and evening, even if they perform Dhikr for 5 minutes, their hearts are washed clean and become pure from sin.
When we assemble together to remember Allah ta'ala, then we become distanced from His anger and His Mercy envelopes us. Our sins are removed and we become pure. This is why we should hasten to these gatherings.
When the rain falls down to the earth, it causes the grass to grow. The moisture definitely has an effect, even if it causes wild grass to emerge. Similarly, those who engage in Dhikr in their homes, their houses appear like twinkling stars, for the people of the heavens who gaze down upon them.
We are close to the Qiyamah and in this era, we have widespread corruption present. The only protection from this corruption, is the Dhikr of Allah ta'ala performed morning and evening.
It has become easy for Shaytan to spread the sins via the use of science and technology. Therefore, Allah ta'ala has also prepared for this and used the same means to spread His Dhikr. Due to technology, this Dhikr has been spread worldwide.
