In Memory of Qutub ul Aqtaab Hadhrat Maulana Ali Murtaza (ra)

We are extremely thankful that Allah ta'ala allowed us to be connected to a very great Sheikh who instilled Allah ta'ala's love within us.

My Sheikh ordered me to leave my country and establish a Khankah here. It was an era in which knowledge began to spread. Madaaris and Darululoom’s were being established and there was the work of Tabligh. Alongside this, the Khankah were also being established. Knowledge reaches completion when a student is rectified through a pious person. Therefore, Allah ta'ala arranged a system to enable this, whereby Tazkiyah is learnt via the Khankah, and thus, a student may take complete benefit from his knowledge. Through the Khankah, the masses gained awareness of self-rectification.

We have come into this world with a purpose. If we understand this purpose, this world will be made easy for us and the next world too. It is within our natural disposition as humans to be weak in implementing the laws of Allah ta'ala. Therefore, the Sufi's strengthen this weakness and help one to implement. Whoever obeys Allah ta'ala and His Messenger ﷺ - the true role model, will be successful in the Hereafter, and will receive the Palaces and Maidens. This is the complete Deen.

Our biggest restriction which prevents us from achieving this, is our Nafs. A person's base desires. Nafs takes a person towards disobedience of Allah ta'ala. It invites and encourages a person towards wrongdoing and immoral actions. Therefore, in order to obey Allah ta'ala, we must control our Nafs. If our Nafs is controlled, then it becomes easy to fulfil our task in this world.

Whoever wants to be protected from punishment and desires a good Hereafter, he should control his Nafs. Once a person's Nafs is controlled, then he reaches the heights.

How is a person's Nafs controlled? You can never control something by your own ability. The method of controlling your Nafs is to assign your Nafs to someone pious.

Allah ta'ala addresses the Prophet ﷺ,

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتُ يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلَىٰ أَن لَّا يُشْرِكْنَ..

"Oh Prophet, when the believing women come to you, pledging to you that they will neither associate anything with Allah.." [60:12]

After the Prophet ﷺ's passing, his deputies continue this work of the Deen until Qiyamah and none can reject this knowledge. To become a complete believer, a person must seek a deputy of the Prophet ﷺ in this world and give his hand in Bay'ah. It doesn't matter how big you are, it doesn’t matter if you are a Sheikh-ul-Hadith, you must fulfil this task in order to become a proper human being.

Women have been mentioned specifically in this verse, so that they can also be improved. If a woman is an observer of prayer, then her children will also become the same. If she fasts and recites Quran whilst breastfeeding, then her children will grow up to become saints. There is an impact of breastfeeding upon a child, as Allah ta'ala has placed blessings in a woman's breast. If she is pure, then her children will grow up, pure. Therefore, improve your womenfolk first. If the women are improved, then the society is improved.

Nabi ﷺ established the practice of Bay'ah and provided a solution so that we may rectify our intentions, otherwise, we will fail in the Hereafter.

The purpose of Bay'ah at the hands of one's teacher, is to control one's Nafs, and one must visit with the intention of seeking Allah and the Truth and seeking His nearness. Controlling the desires, should be one's objective, because the desires, are what inclines us towards sins.
The purpose of Bay'ah should always be, self-rectification, not for any worldly purposes. If you have any worldly reasons for taking Bay'ah, then your Bay’ah is invalid, because this action is done specifically to reject the world and attain Allah ta'ala and in order to do this, one must be separated from the love of the world.

When we make a promise with our teacher, to abstain from sin, then our Nafs becomes rectified and in this way, when a person becomes a true believer, then he cannot sleep after lying or backbiting or committing a sin.

The word بيعة comes from بيع, 'to sell,' 'to hand over,' 'to assign.' When you sell yourself, then you become a slave. Once you have been purchased by your teacher, then your rights end and you have come under the control of your teacher so that he may utilise you. You must obey your master. This is the true Bay'ah. This is when all the sins will evaporate. However, if you sell yourself to your Sheikh, but you follow your own desires, then you are a hypocrite and the punishment is severe. As mentioned in Surah Baqarah, you are only deceiving yourself and you have a disease in your heart. You were insincere and didn't have the correct intention. On the other hand, when we make a firm resolution to find Allah ta'ala, then Allah ta'ala protects us.

We should have the same relationship with our teacher, as the Sahabah had with the Prophet ﷺ. We should travel in search of the truth and sell ourselves in order to reach our destination. We should be desperate all lifelong, to seek guidance from our teacher.

The deceased assign themselves to the one washing them. You should also assign yourself to your Sheikh in a similar manner and obey him.

A person never visits a pious person on his own accord. Rather, he is selected by Allah ta'ala and the Quran proves this. However, if you destroy yourself through your Nafs, then you'll be punished.

When you come to a Sheikh, be sincere and humble yourself. Everyone is a sinner in front of the Sheikh. This is the place to control your Nafs, so immerse yourself in your Sheikh. This is when you receive Paradise. Eliminate the desires of the world and submit yourself at the hands of the teacher. Rectify your Bay'ah.

When my Hadhrat Sahib gave the last message of their life on the 24th of Shawwaal, they explained three things required for Tazkiyah.

Dhikr of Allah, the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, and the company of the Wali Allah.

1) Dhikr is the cure to all problems. Never miss it, even if you do it for 5 minutes. Engage in dhikr, even if you don’t feel like it.

2) The Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ is the light. One requires light in order to tread the path, otherwise he will deviate. Thus, the Sunnah is the light on the path to Allah. Through the Sunnah, one reaches the nearness of Allah ta'ala.

3) After these two things, the important thing is the company of the Sheikh. One will be tested severely via dhikr and the Sunnah, but the company of the Sheikh will help one sail through these tests and pass.

Focus on abandoning the sins. Do not pray Tahajjud and Nawaafil if you are not able to. You are not required to work hard or perform Umrah and Hajj. Rather, focus on one action. Pray 5 times in congregation and do not commit sins. Do not disobey Allah ta'ala. Be firm on this and you will be successful.

When you commit a sin, then have awareness that it is a major sin which you have committed. If you do not hold this mind-set, then you are considered a hypocrite.

The purpose is not the Sheikh nor the Prophet ﷺ. The purpose is to attain Allah ta'ala. They are simply the means through which a person may attain Allah ta'ala, therefore submit in the obedience of your teacher.

The Sheikh cannot break your desires. The Sheikh can guide you but he cannot physically control your desires for you. In reality, the ball is in your court. When a student obeys and imitates his Sheikh, then his desires automatically become destroyed. When he accepts his words and obeys him, then he is considered a true student, otherwise he is not considered a true Naqshbandi.

Until you have the esteem and appreciation for something in your heart, you won't appreciate it.
Allah ta'ala emphasises on His remembrance, so that the greatness of Allah ta'ala comes within our hearts. The more Allah's greatness comes into our heart, the more we will obey Him.

We find the Sunnah difficult to perform and we lack in obedience to Allah ta'ala and His Rasul ﷺ, because we do not possess glory for Allah ta'ala and His Rasul ﷺ in our hearts. This is why it is not demonstrated practically in our Iives.

If we had true greatness for him, we wouldn't abandon him as our role model. A disobedient person is he who lacks the greatness of Allah ta'ala in his heart. Therefore, the first thing the Awliyah Allah do, is, instil the greatness of Allah ta'ala within a person’s heart through dhikr.

There are only two means of intercession on the day of Qiyamah. Nabi ﷺ himself and the Kalimah. The Kalimah will intercede for those people who repeatedly recited the Kalimah.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls. Ameen
