What is Deen?

The objective of a believer's life is to attain Paradise, a successful Hereafter, salvation from Hellfire and the Prophet ﷺ's intercession.

Nothing is difficult and Allah ta'ala has given a path and solution to attain everything. There is one action which causes a person to receive all of these things.

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrated that someone asked the Prophet ﷺ about the deed which causes a person to enter Paradise the quickest. The Prophet ﷺ replied, "it is to have great character."

In another Hadith, Nabi ﷺ mentioned that the most beloved person to him and the most closest to him on Qiyamah, will be the one who has great conduct.

The Prophets were sent to this world to reform the conduct and character of the people. Nabi ﷺ came to complete our character and teach us great conduct. Thus, our objective in this world, is not worship, rather, the purpose of being sent to this world, is for the sake of the broken-hearted. This is the test for the human being.

The objective of Tazkiyah is not to become a Wali Allah or a Saint. Rather, it is for the sake of purification. You can never be successful if this is not your objective.

Tazkiyah helps to improve our character. A person cannot reform himself. Rather, he must sit in the company of the one who has already been reformed. Every action and worship has an objective and only once you intend to achieve this objection, you will be successful. Therefore, if you want to know if your worship is accepted, assess if you have attained it's objective.

The one whose prayer is correct, will improve and leave sins and evil. This is the objective of prayer. If you are praying but have not attained this, then there's something lacking in your prayer. You're not praying correctly. You're not really establishing your prayer. Hence, we should strive to improve our prayer. It cannot be that a person prays correctly, yet advances towards wrongdoing.

Dua is impactful but if there's something lacking in it, or, one of its conditions are missing, then it cannot benefit. Similarly, fasting is accepted once its objective is attained - which is attaining Taqwa. Ramadan became a waste for that person who did not attain Taqwa.

Furthermore, the purpose of Zakah, is to purify our wealth. It teaches generosity and humbleness. Through Zakah, the greed of wealth ends and a person receives blessings in his wealth. In such a way, a person attains the objective of Zakah.

Allah ta'ala has given us these measurements gauges to assess whether we are fulfilling our worship correctly and not falling into deception.

Those who have concern over their worship being accepted, visit the wali Allah. The objective of Tazkiyah is to improve our manners and character. Our entire body and lifestyle is based on our character. It is a collective feature for a human being.

In our society, there is great corruption and evil. This is because we follow the deen based on our own desires and opinions. If we do not have great character, then all our efforts go to a waste and we have not achieved anything at all.

Building good character is the true preparation for the Hereafter. There are physical and practical features of Imaan, as well as internal. Nabi ﷺ said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him protect his neighbour." [Ahmad]

The one who has true Imaan, will not trouble his neighbours and the Prophet ﷺ explained that 'neighbours' extends to 40 houses surrounding a person's own home. This means that it includes the entire society. Hence, we must look after our neighbours if they're sick and cook for them if they're hungry.

We should be so cautious of the rights of our neighbours that we should avoid giving them pain, even by drilling a nail into their wall.

Hadhrat Junaid Baghdad رحمة الله عليه once had a lot of mice running in his home. Someone advised him to get a cat to chase the mice away. He refused saying that the mice would then flee to his neighbours home and he would rather bear the difficulty himself. It was for this reason. he reached the heights .

Nabi ﷺ also said, "I guarantee a house on the outskirts of Paradise, a house in the middle of Paradise, and a house in the highest part of Paradise for one who gives up arguing even if he is right, who gives up lying even while joking, and who makes his character excellent.” [al-Mu’jam al-Kabīr]

This is how society is improved and if we were true Muslims today, we wouldn't require a court of justice. There would be peace in our lands. This is the deen which Hadhrat Mahdi عليه السلام will spread in the world. This is the true Deen which will be established.

Great nations with much advancements, were wiped away through punishments because they disobeyed the Prophet. These nations brought about their own version of Deen.

Similarly, today we pick and choose the Deen. We fail to attain the objective for our worships. This is deception. We should place our objective in front of us, otherwise, we wander around in life aimlessly.

My Hadhrat Sahib defined a Wali Allah. He said, it is he who demolishes the base desires and poor conduct and brings excellent conduct in his life. He removes lying from his life and brings about integrity and trustworthiness. He eliminates anger and brings about tenderness. He eliminates revenge and brings about forgiveness. This is good character which causes a person to be closest to the Prophet ﷺ.

Good Character teaches a person to compromise his own rights and demote himself. He eliminate all disputes and arguing and brings peace in to his life. One learns this from the pious person's gatherings.

Furthermore, the biggest effort is to have a clean heart and not hurt anyone. We should learn how to forgive and instil mercy in our hearts.

The person who forgives and the person who seeks forgiveness, should not be ashamed. This is because, through these actions, a person frees himself from Hellfire.

If a person has pride, and doesn't forgive the one who seeks his forgiveness, then, he must remember that he will also require Allah ta'ala's forgiveness in the Hereafter. Instead, he should forgive for the sake of Allah ta'ala. This is the true Deen and the true Islam.
Sufi's will teach you love upon love. Islam is acquired through love. All the Sahabah had this quality and any enmity was removed from their heart through the noble presence of the Prophet ﷺ.

We should sit in the company of the teacher and learn good character just as the Sahabah did. Allah ta'ala has made it such that, through the blessed company of the teacher, the conduct of the student is developed. This is the effect Allah ta'ala has placed in their company as their company is genuine.

Nothing is difficult to attain, so we should work hard with whatever our teachers guides us to do, so that we can have our character improved.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement.
