How Can We Live a Cautious Life?

A person faces great loss if he does not value his life, nor spend it with caution.

In the Quran, Allah ta'ala mentions that He has purchased the life of a true believer who spends his entire life according to Allah ta'ala and Nabi ﷺ's instructions and he lives his life with extreme caution.

We tread through dirty places with extreme caution and care, in order to prevent our clothes from becoming dirty and to protect our bodies from coming to harm. Similarly, the human being treads the path of this life with caution so that he may receive permanent happiness and reward.

We cannot waste time and do whatever we feel like in this world. We must live our lives cautiously. The more caution we take, the better person we will become.

There are two things which we must be careful of in our lives.

1) Do not consider any good to be insignificant because every good deed, no matter how small it is, grants a person paradise and Allah ta'ala's pleasure.

2) Never commit a sin, no matter how small it appears. The way to prevent yourself, is via the company of a Wali Allah. His effect will rub off on you and you will become accustomed to abandoning sin.

Begin emulating the Sunnah through which a person receives a hundred martyr's reward. You earn this great reward even by doing the smallest of deeds according to the Sunnah, like eating, dressing and sleeping. How easy is the deen of Islam! We think that a person is successful through abundant worship, however, in reality, we can earn so much just by following the Sunnah.

Never forsake the opportunity to do a good deed. Allah ta'ala has made it easy for us to amass the good deeds during this month by giving us the reward of a Fard for any single good deed. No matter how many Nafl prayers one performs in his lifetime, it can never equate to a Fard worship, besides in Ramadan. The smallest of deed like greeting someone, causes us to be rewarded greatly, so we are never deprived through performing good deeds.

The Wali Allah are those who spend their lives carefully. They don't waste their time except in earning good deeds. They live their lives in the obedience of Allah taala and Nabi ﷺ. They are the Muttaqi who will be the standouts on the day of Qiyamah, so we should sit in their company regularly.

Nafs and Shaytan are with us all the time. For example, if we engage in extreme abundant worship, we may become prideful over it. We may become ostentatious. Whichever thing we do too much of, we become arrogant over it. Our pride is what prevents us from submitting ourselves to a teacher and sitting in his company, although, the company of the Wali Allah helps us to become moderate individuals, whilst eliminating our spiritual sicknesses.

Whichever Islamic field you are in, if you do not have a Wali Allah as your guide, then you're doing it for the sake of the world. There is no guarantee that that deed is accepted.

Through their company, you will receive this caution of not forsaking any good deed. You will earn good deeds through every opportunity because you're greedy to earn the Fard reward. Ramadan is making us habitual in performing good deeds and whoever adopts this habit in Ramadan, will receive the same great rewards throughout the year.

In the company of a Sheikh, the intention must be correct, which is; to attain Allah's love nearness and focus. If you want the path to Allah ta'ala to become easier, then you must hold the hand of a Sheikh. If you go with these intentions, then your sitting and rising will cause you to become a Wali Allah. The Wali Allah is he whose inner self has been improved and transformed. His style and thinking has transformed.

When one commits small sins repeatedly, it ends up collectively sufficing for his destruction. Such a person becomes destined for Hell. Therefore, we should abandon all sin before they accumulate. We slap someone and make small lies and consider it nothing because we have engaged in other worships. These sins are still detrimental and most definitely impact us.

وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ

"Seek the forgiveness of your Lord..." [11:90]

Allah ta'ala has used the word 'Rabb' to demonstrate His extreme love and care for us. 'Rabb' refers to the One who has provided for you and granted you health. Allah ta'ala favours His creation greatly regardless of them being non believers or sinners. He grants them comfort, satisfaction and stability through their food and through their occupations.

When you commit a sin, Allah ta'ala does not announce it, rather He keeps it a secret between you and Himself. The odour of one sin is so bad, that if it was made apparent, nobody would greet you and if your sins appeared on your forehead, you would be very ugly and avoided by the people.

ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ ۚ

..."and turn to Him in repentance." [11:90]

Your Lord has forgiven you and saved you from Hell despite your many sins so you should be grateful to Him by repenting. After repentance, Allah ta'ala causes the victim to forget your wrongdoing upon him. He replaces the bitter thoughts with love towards you. Thus, don't be ashamed to appear in front of him. Be bold and embrace him. He will never complain to you about your wrongdoing because Allah ta'ala will wipe it away from his memory. This is for those people who make sincere repentance. This is the power of Allah ta'ala that He wipes away all traces of sin.

Hadhrat Wahshi RadiyaAllahu anhu gave Nabi ﷺ extreme pain as he was the cause of losing his dear uncle. He wrote a letter to Nabi ﷺ mentioning forgiveness for his many sins. Nabi ﷺ replied through revelation stating that he must repent, have faith and perform good deeds. Hadhrat Wahshi RadiyaAllahu anhu mentioned that he could not perform good deeds, so, he was told not to lose hope in the Mercy of Allah ta'ala. He was forgiven and he became a Sahabi due to one repentance transforming his life.

Whenever you seek a job, assess whether it is Shariah compliant, instead of prioritising a greater salary. If you go against Shariah, you are going against Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala has stipulated laws and you cannot go transgress those laws.

After repenting, Allah ta'ala removes the veils and grants a person, the reward of repentance, which is the dhikr of Allah. This verse also denotes that one should perform tawbah via such an avenue, whereby he can learn Allah ta'ala's dhikr. Dhikr ensures a person's repentance is completed so that Allah's ta'ala's focus can always be upon him.

It is very essential to take up the company of a Sheikh regardless of how dirty and impure you are. When you're dirty, you seek the bathroom, so you can purify yourself. Similarly, when you're spiritually impure, you should seek the company of the pious people as they assist you in purifying and rectifying yourselves.

إِنَّ رَبِّي رَحِيمٌ وَدُودٌ
"Surely my Lord is Ever Merciful, Most Loving." [11:90]

The first splendour of Allah is Rabubiyyat, (Divinity.) If it wasn't for this quality, the world wouldn't function. Allah ta'ala runs the system and sustains for all creation, so this verse reassures us from worrying. These are the splashes of His Magnificence.

Whoever does true repentance, is showered with Allah ta'ala's Mercy. He is given sustenance from the world and goodness and happiness.

Happiness is in the heart. It is not found through wealth, because even the wealthy people cannot sleep at night. The one who concerns himself with the world and complains, will never be happy. The basis of happiness is not wealth, rather, the basis of happiness is Allah ta'ala. Become close to Him as much as you can and even if you are granted little in life, your gratitude is what makes you happy.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement.
