Which Deed did the Prophet ﷺ Tell Us To Do in Ramadan?

This month is singled out as a special month in which a believers schedule is not only altered, but his inner self is also changed. The great people are those who utilise this month to improve themselves. They feel Allah's Mercy and blessings within their soul and experience good things.

We have been instructed not to waste this month. Nabi ﷺ himself has explained the objective of this month and its methodology, however, it is unfortunate that we don't practice what has been established. How strange that we are occupied in other things!

We remain awake at night, complete many Quran and lengthy duas, and we weep whilst going against the actions which are stipulated from the Sunnah. This is great deception and such a persons desires has contaminated him and his worship does not benefit him.
On the other hand, if you worship according to Allah ta'ala's preference and according to the Sunnah, yet you do not weep, then nothing can compare to that worship. We should avoid keeping the acts of lengthy sujood, Tahajjud and shedding many tears, as our standard of worship. Rather, we must implement what Allah ta'ala has ordered us to do, for example; praying in the Masjid with congregation.

We should be extremely cautious of how we spend our Ramadan. Each of us should practice Ramadan the way that the Prophet ﷺ has prescribed, otherwise our worship is useless. The blessed Sahabah and pious predecessors confirmed this by first performing those actions which Nabi ﷺ explained and thereafter they performed other worships within their capacity.

Instead of performing extra worship, we should exercise our complete strength to abandon sins. If one does not have the capacity to pray voluntary prayers, but fulfils the 5 compulsory prayers according to the Sunnah in the Masjid and tries his best to leave sin and wrongdoing, then such a person becomes a Wali Allah. Such a person has attained the true objective of Ramadan.

Nabi ﷺ mentioned 4 qualities which should be exercised in abundance during this month, 2 of which are very important. 1) The dhikr of Allah performed in abundance. 2) Repentance 3) supplicating to Allah ta'ala.

This is not the month of counting tasbih. We should be engaging in the dhikr of the heart which is limitless. Nabi ﷺ gave good news for those people who engage in dhikr, that they are forgiven, beyond forgiven! So we should sit with those who engage in dhikr and remain in the constant state of dhikr. We should leave all other actions and take up dhikr which is superior to other acts of worship in this month. The angels surround the dhikr gatherings and protect that gathering and Allah ta'ala's Mercy descends upon such a gathering. Allah ta'ala protects them from all evil and inserts peace and contentment within their hearts.

Ramadan is not connected to the body, rather, it is connected to our soul. That's why Allah ta'ala has kept us hungry, so that we can feed our souls which we have deprived. We have kept our souls hungry and thirsty throughout the year, so Allah ta'ala withholds nourishment of the body in Ramadan, so that we can focus on nourishing our souls instead. The food of the soul is the abundance of dhikr and the soul absorbs the dhikr of Allah and is revived by it.

Secondly, Repentance is the Ghusl for our soul.
We should admit to our mistakes. There is never loss in asking Allah ta'ala for forgiveness for even those sins which we may not have committed. Allah ta'ala loves humility and He loves it when we acknowledge Him as our Creator.

Nowadays, we don't even acknowledge the sins we commit, nor do we pay attention to the diseases of our hearts, we do not recognise our contaminated deeds, nor those whose rights we have violated. We should repent and submit ourselves to Allah ta'ala in order to be forgiven for our misdeeds. We should make a promise to Allah ta'ala with courage and confidence during this Ramadan that we will abandon all wrongdoing and not repeat them again. Thereafter, Allah ta'ala will help us to be protected from sin.
Those who listen to music and drink alcohol during flights are causing the particles of the sky to testify towards their sins. They have made the earth impure, and then they cause the skies to become impure with their sins, leaving no area in the world free from their wrongdoing? We must be wary that the Earth and the limbs of our body will testify against our sins in Hereafter, however, if we repent, Allah ta'ala will wipe away all sins.

For a believer, there is no sin which is too difficult to abandon. A believer is not "too weak" to forego his bad habits. This is pure deception. We should seek Allah ta'ala's forgiveness and then stand firm. Thereafter, Allah ta'ala will not only forgive you, rather He orders the angels to wipe away the proof of sin from the places where the sinner committed the sin. Similarly, when a person does dhikr, that land will testify that he performed dhikr.

لا اله الا الله نستغفر الله نسألك الجنه ونعوذ بك من النار

Thirdly, we should ask Allah ta'ala to accept our worship and our actions. We should request Allah ta'ala for Paradise and seek His refuge from the fire of Hell. Without this dua, one cannot attain success at all.

When we ask Allah ta'ala for Paradise, He allows this world to become Paradise for us too. Such a person experiences ease and contentment even through his trials and sickness. He is happy and satisfied despite being in severe situations. This is because, when the heart is happy then all the problems disappear. All emotions are felt within the heart, so Paradise is also felt in the heart of a human being. Thus, when you ask Allah ta'ala for Paradise, then it is not restricted to the Hereafter, but also for this world. It means that you are asking Allah ta'ala for comfort and contentment upon whatever is written in your destiny. And if you face problems, you will endure them all with ease.

Furthermore, when we seek Allah ta'ala's refuge from Hellfire, then every path which takes a person to Hellfire, will be destroyed. Through this supplication, you are asking Allah ta'ala to protect you from all types of sin so it becomes a conclusive dua for a believer.

If an individual does nothing else besides these actions mentioned, he will attain Allah ta'ala's pleasure and if Allah ta'ala is pleased with a person, then his life and his children cannot be free from blessings. Such a person becomes destined for Paradise.

Those whom Allah ta'ala are pleased with, are recognised and mentioned in the heavens. They are known to the creatures and the birds and all insects! In Madinah Shareef, My Hadhrat Sahib would never be bitten by the scorpions despite being surrounded by them. In response to this, they once said, "We are the Guests of Madinah. They (scorpions) do not harm me." This is because Allah ta'ala is extremely pleased with such great individuals and such people become confident that Allah ta'ala is happy with them.

Allah ta'ala's pleasure is not found via Tahajjud and Hajj and voluntary actions. Rather, the path to His happiness is found by serving others and removing their needs. Thereafter, if the people supplicate for you, then Allah ta'ala becomes happy with you and the doors of Paradise are opened for you.

Some people never prayed in their life, but performed such great actions that the doors of paradise were opened for them. We should seek the easy methods through which we may attain Allah ta'ala's happiness.

Ramadan wasn't granted to us to place us into difficulty, rather it was granted to give us an opportunity of attaining Allah ta'ala's pleasure.

A true lover doesn't waste a minute in trying to make his beloved happy with him, so this is what we should aim for this month.

If we are not repenting and doing dhikr in abundance, then our Ramadan has gone to a waste because true success lies in these 2 things.

May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement these beautiful gems of advice.
