What Will be the Deed for Forgiveness?

The greatest test for a person is to control his Nafs. We should never consider practicing deen or engaging in worship to be difficult. Rather, it is our nafs which makes it difficult so we should aim to suppress our nafs and control ourselves. The more you suppress your desires, the more pleasure you will experience from your worship. The more you will avoid wrong actions and begin to like what Allah ta'ala likes.

Humble yourself and consider yourself to be dust. All titles are given by Allah ta'ala. He can give respect and take it away so don't become proud. If someone honours you today, perhaps tomorrow they may rebuke you.

The weightiest deed on the day of Qiyamah will be Good Character. Those of good character are pure and cautious individuals. Examples of good character include, loving the poor, refraining from arguments and cursing, avoiding hurting the hearts of others, fulfilling rights and foregoing your own, humbling yourself, swallowing your anger and respecting others. One gains more reward through excellent character over praying a thousand Tahajjud. We must spend our lives trying to achieve this.

The word Khaliq is connected to Makhluq. If you want to attain the closeness of your Lord, then take the path of His creation. This is the path of displaying good character towards His servants.
Nowadays, we consider backbiting to be insignificant just because we've done extra worship like Tahajjud. We enjoy the praise from people and become big headed. Then we consider it a minor thing to dishonour, criticise and oppress others. Sadly, even the religious people suppress the rights of their womenfolk and consume their inheritance shares. This is not part of the deen.

Reckoning in the Hereafter will be very severe so we must seek forgiveness from those we oppress or hurt, lest we won't be forgiven by Allah ta'ala. Furthermore, those whom we have oppressed will seize our good deeds in the Hereafter and leave us helpless.

Nabi ﷺ said, “Verily, the most complete of believers in faith are those with the best character and who are most kind to their families.” [Tirmidhi]

We must develop and assess our character. Praying 5 times a day and extra nafil is good but we shouldn't become complacent with our worship as it is not enough on its own. There is reward for worship but worship is only a small part of Islam. In reality, we should assess the greatness of others, through their conduct.

The most wretched person to Allah on the day of Qiyamah will be the one whom others avoid due to his bad character.

The real deen is based on excellent manners.
Excellent character is light and it allows your worship to be accepted by Allah ta'ala so do not consider it to be insignificant. Your deeds are accepted when your conduct is correct. Your worship is elevated to the highest ranks when your character is good otherwise it is useless.

Nabi ﷺ demonstrated good conduct throughout his life. He was very cautious of disturbing his wife Hadhrat Aishah رضي الله عنها at night and would seek her permisison to engage in worship. This is 99 percent of Islam.

Nabi ﷺ was so merciful that he never punished those who oppressed him. He didn't curse them. Rather, he prayed for them. Therefore, the one who is discredited and disrespected for the sake of the deen follows in the footsteps of Nabi ﷺ.

A person who has great character can never be affected by magic. No spell can overcome him because Allah ta'ala's angels send mercy upon him and Allah ta'ala's special focus is upon him so he is always immersed in light.

You won't achieve Tazkiyah through worship. You can do however many tawaf you want, but it won't rectify you, as rectification of the soul lies in tazkiyah. If you want to correct your character and remove your spiritual diseases, then you must adopt tazkiyah. Moreover, It is necessary to improve your character so that you can be safe from Hellfire and achieve Paradise.

One requires 3 things to attain Tazkiyah.
1) Dhikr
2) Sunnah of Nabi ﷺ
3) Adopt the company of a Sheikh.

Through this you will be successful on the journey to Tazkiyah and will gain status in this world. If you have a car and fuel but no driver, it's useless. Similarly, with tazkiyah all 3 things must be adopted.
Through dhikr a person attains 3 things.
1) He becomes purified.
2) He becomes elevated
3) His ranks are raised.

Allah ta'ala sent 124000 messengers to the Earth, but made Nabi ﷺ the most beloved of all so imagine the pleasure of Allah when we imitate His beloved!

When you stand firm on deen, then Allah ta'ala begins to test you in order for you to attain paradise. We should gradually begin to implement the Sunnah within our lifestyles. The more difficult the environment, the more reward. When you imitate His beloved, then Allah ta'ala's focus and mercy will be upon you for Allah ta'ala dislikes it when those who dishonour Him and the Prophet ﷺ are imitated.

Allah ta'ala has placed light within every sunnah which illuminates the heart. When you're illuminated, then you begin to see the reality and you leave the depths of the darkness. The light helps you to recognise the sin and abdanon them.

The Prophets and Messengers left a legacy who were the Awliyah Allah. They became the deputies after them. We should spend time in their company as beautiful conduct is taught in their presence. Physical companionship is how the deen spread through the time of the noble companions. Hence, the company of the Sheikh is very valuable.

Unfortunately, today we consider the true Sheikh's to be those who cause us to pass our exams, our businesses to flourish and provide us sons.

Dhikr is taught via a Sheikh and Allah ta'ala has placed the cure for everything within dhikr. It will protect and purify you.

The company of a Sheikh makes the journey of life easy for you. He will provide you endless solutions when you are stuck. He places himself in difficulty trying to remove you from your hardships. He won't mistrust your affairs or seize your money. Rather, He prays for you after every salah and rises up and prays for you in Tahajjud. We should strive to seek our Sheikh's prayers for matters related to deen.

May Allah ta’ala grant us the ability to implement.
