WHAT PLEDGE DID ALLAH TAKE FROM US

From the beginning of the Quran to this point, all the verses that we have read, Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ has given one message. In every way Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ has delivered that particular message through every verse in a very clear way. In this message is our benefit and the success of the hereafter. Most definitely these verses give us the Radha/Pleasure of Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ, the luggage and content that takes us to the pleasure of Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ. In this way the verse that we will read today will also deliver that message in a very unique style.
الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ
Who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined and cause corruption on earth. It is those who are the losers.
QURAN 2:27
Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ in this verse states those people who break the covenant of Allah, the promise/pact they have made but break this after ratifying it. Those that sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined, in other words the relationships or connections Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ has ordered to maintain they break them. They actually spread mischief on the earth, verily they are the losers and they will earn a very big loss أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ. In this verse Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ addresses the human beings/mankind, what does الَّذِينَ mean, the commentators of the Quran have said that when Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ stated يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ in the verses earlier, Allah was addressing all of mankind, in which are those that believe and are sinful or do those that do not believe and thirdly the munafiqeen/hypocrites. All 3 groups of people are included in يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ. Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ stated:
الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ, which strong and clear covenant/promise/pact was this that was made by Muslims, disbelievers, those that believe and accept, the fasiq, the sinful, those that reject, those that do not believe and those who do not practice and the munafiqeen/ hypocrites. Allah is reminding all of us that at such a time you made a clear promise to me, this is not a minor or small scale agreement, أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ “Am I not your Lord”, Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ states in the Quran, this is the Mizaan, the agreement the pact when Allah gathered all the souls in one place. After gathering all the souls, Allah asked them do you accept I am your Rab/Lord أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ, all of the souls said yes: قَالُوا بَلَىٰ, they agreed with Allah that you are our Lord. This agreement was made by all those who have left this world, those that living and by those that are yet to be born, this promise was made by all the souls. They all agreed and accepted Allah as the Lord. Allah took this promise from us because He was going to send us to such place where people will turn away from this promise due to nafs, base desires and shaytaan. This is why Allah solidified that pact in advance so we will not be able to reject this by saying that we did not make an agreement. In this covenant it wasn’t just an agreement with regards Allah being the Rabb but in this promise we also said directly which is confirmed in the hadith. Hadhrath Muhaddith Haq Dehlvi رحمه الله has narrated/communicated this hadith: When the noor/light of the Holy Prophet Mustafa ﷺ was created then (Subhan’Allah) from his noor came the benefit to the whole of mankind. In other words after the noor of the Holy Prophet ﷺ from this noor all of the Prophets عليه السلام creation came, their souls were extracted from this noor. Allah instructed the noor of the Holy Prophet ﷺ to look towards these Rays, when the Holy Prophets ﷺ noor looked at these rays which were the Prophets عليه السلام, His light ﷺ overwhelmed and suppressed them. The Holy Prophets ﷺ Noor was more intense than them. They started to request to Allah as to what this noor/light was as our light is dimmed and diminished in front of this. Allah stated in reply that this is Noor-e-Muhammad Abdullah, if you believe in him then I will make you a Prophet, the Prophets عليه السلام replied O Our Rab we have complete belief and trust in the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Subhan’Allah, the Holy Prophets ﷺ light overpowers all of the Prophets عليه السلام, I remember a Nasheed which describes this beautiful event and I can recite some of the words:
MASHIYATAY HAQ-E-ANWAR SE JIS GARI NOOR HAQ-E-MUHAMMAD BANA-E GAYA
This is a clear link to the hadith where it states that Allah created the Noor of the Holy Prophet ﷺ the all the remaining Prophets عليه السلام souls were extracted from that Noor.
MASHIYATAY HAQ-E-ANWAR SE JIS GARI NOOR HAQ-E-MUHAMMAD BANA-E GAYA
PIR USEE NOOR KI JALWATO KAY TUFAYL BAZME KONO MAQA KO SAJAYA GAYA
WOH AYA HO GAYA MISLAY QUN HO GAYA, GOYA TAHLEEQ-E-ARZU SAMAN HO GAYA
BEHTAY DARYAHO KO SARAY JARNAY BANAY, ZARRAY ZARRO MAY USQO BASAYA GAYA
When Allah Haq Ta Ala created Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام , his kunyat/title was Abu Muhammad and Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام turned to Allah and said O Rab for the sake of Muhammad ﷺ please forgive the action that took place in Paradise. After hearing this call from Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام , Allah asked how do you know about Muhammad ﷺ? Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام responded by saying to Allah that when you created me at that time (Subhan’Allah, Subhan’Allah), if we reflect here upon creation then the verse and the command of Allah is clear and manifest:
فَإِنَّما يَقولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكونُ
(2:117) “He just says it to BE and it is”.
The earth and the heavens were created with this same command. Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام
further states to Allah when you created me I looked upon the Arsh/Throne, I looked around Paradise and upon the doors of Paradise there was written:
لآ اِلَهَ اِلّا اللّهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُوُل اللّهِ,
When I saw this written, I understood that if there is a name with the name of Allah then this must be a supreme personality, it was written on every leaf and I realised that this is the final Prophet, Seal of the Prophets, he is from my progeny and His name is Ahmad which in the heavens and the earth is Muhammad ﷺ. We need to imagine and reflect here upon the status of Holy Prophet ﷺ that the Quran is stating: الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ
A big covenant/promise with Allah was taken, this is from the Prophets also, what was this promise? The promise from Allah stated that my Beloved Nabi ﷺ will come, He will be the Final Prophet ﷺ, you will all have to follow and obey him and the goodness of the whole of the universe/creation will be in following the Holy Prophetﷺ. Whoever follows him will be successful and those that do not follow him will incur a great loss and be amongst the losers. In other words Allah is making it clear that after making the promise with Me how can you reject the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. To remind mankind of this promise/agreement Allah continued to send the Prophets to creation to remind of the Final &Seal of the Prophets ﷺ and the Final Book of Allah which is the Quran. The shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ will be final, his Shariah will cancel all the laws that came before and people will have to accept the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and all the goodness for the people to come will be in following the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Subhan’Allah. What is the reason for breaking this covenant: الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ, Allah states you make this covenant and then sever it yet it contains all the goodness for mankind upon following the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and His Sunnah.
When mankind breaks this promise as we can see for ourselves in this current day and age,
وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ, this action of severing the agreement, breaking the tie/connection which was in actual fact the one thing that would have united you all together. In this world, to live here and succeed it was in following the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and those that oppose this will face mischief, a great loss and they will receive nothing else from this world. In other words there is only one definition for a righteous and upright life which is to be in accordance with the Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. The Quran reminds us of this that no person can attain in any shape or form peace or contentment via any other way. We see this in our lives and environment today where there is no peace and harmony in our homes, society or any country. This is despite having everything material, progress, wealth the one thing that was designed to bind everything together and keep the ties was Rasulullah’s ﷺ Shariah and Sunnah. This was the solution to everything but it has been taken out by those that believe and those that have not believed have not accepted it. Allah states الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ when on that plane where all the souls were gathered and Allah took the promise, so a believer affirms to this promise when he recites the testification of faith. All the believers say O Allah You are وَحَدْهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ meaning You are One and without any partner. The believers also testify that you are our Rab and we take a pledge of obedience but our faith/testification is not complete until we say مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُوُل اللّهِ. Muhammad ﷺ is your Rasul/Prophet, we accept this, we will obey him, imitate him and follow his laws/principles/instructions. This is the promise that we made, so the first promise we made was as souls to Allah, the disbelievers have gone to the wayside, the munafiqeen/hypocrites have made this promise/pact to Allah. Then they break this promise وَيَقْطَعُونَ and sever this tie . The promise is made to Allah to obey Him and follow the Sunnah and Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ but you must also maintain relationships in society. If people leave and Allah and the Holy Prophet ﷺ then that connection is severed. The shariah came to bring peace and similar the Holy Prophet ﷺ taught us how to maintain relationships and goodness with people. If you leave Rasulullah ﷺ and the law of Allah then you can’t bring your own laws to maintain peace, happiness and prosperity. This will impossible, no matter how many laws you make in opposition to the Shariah and Sunnah they will never succeed. If these opposing laws were successful we will not have the mischief, evil, chaos and wrongdoings in the world today. Due to these laws if look at the state of the world we have killing, looting, plundering and the only thing that can bring people together is Shariah Mutahara, the Holy Shariah and Sunnah, the honourable Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ can bring society together, forge relationships that are meaningful, the biggest and most important thing in Islam, the biggest and most important message of the Holy Prophet ﷺ in a hadith that mercy can’t descend on a nation or those people that sever their ties with their relatives and breaks their connection with them. This is a very important point, in a further hadith narrated by Hadhrat Abdul Rahman Bin Awf رضي الله عنه that the Holy Prophet ﷺ stated that Allah stated: “I am Allah and I am Rahman and created the relationships and ties, I link this with my name and Allah states whoever maintains these relationships with mercy I will be joined with him and whoever breaks their ties I will break my tie with him. So in this Ayah Allah is stating to the human beings that you made a promise with me, you made a pact with me that you will believe in me and my Holy Prophet. Then you broke that tie with the Holy Prophet ﷺ and you have oppressed yourself. When you have cancelled the agreement in believing and following the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Shariah and you take this out of your life when this is the only thing that will have kept you in line on the straight and narrow path. This would have bought peace and prosperity on you all but by breaking that tie all sources of goodness are diminished, there is no peace or love, there is no positive relationships and we can assess this by looking at the current state of the world. When the Holy Prophet ﷺ has stated that the mercy of Allah will not come upon a nation within whom there is a person who breaks the ties of kinship. My Brothers we can’t succeed nor can this Dunya prosper, our families and households can’t succeed or prosper until we do not remind ourselves of the promise that was taken by our soul. This was the promise to believe in Allah and his Prophet ﷺ (Allahu Akbar). The Prophets Name Ahmad ﷺ recognised the world in the heavens, Allah stated I would not have created the heavens and earth and addressing Adam, Allah informs Adam that I would not have created yourself if I did not create the Holy Prophet ﷺ. We need to look upon what sort of wisdom or intellect do we have when we think we can lead successful lives without the Shariah and Sunnah. This is not wisdom but rather Allah has given a different response to this by stating:
وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ
The people who have this mindset Allah refers to them as those that cause mischief on earth, they spread Fitnah, those that spread disorder and take people away from the real Deen, they criticise the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, they belittle the Sunnah and Shariah, make mockery and joke against it, they criticise, belittle them, joke with them, pick bones and pinpoint those that are following the Sunnah and Shariah, they go against the Deen of Islam and put doubts in the minds of people. They belittle, dishonour and degrade those that follow the true Shariah and Sunnah. In comparison to that those people that have the methodology against the path of Islam, they revive those ways that are against Islam but Allah states remember one point that the plots and plans of wanting to end the Shariah, they want to end the Sunnah, oppose the verse of the Quran, create a new ideology, want to create a modernist, progressive and so called thinkers. Allah calls upon these people to plot and plan as you want or invent whatever you want but ultimately أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ, it will be their loss and they will be the losers. The loss will come in this world and in the Akhirah/the hereafter. Shariah and Sunnah is that light which is so intense it can never be put out, it will never flicker and never shake. Indeed it is not conceivable for the light of Allah’s deen to be put out by the darkness of disbelief. We need to understand this important point that Allah is stating that the light of Shariah and Sunnah can never be put out. All the efforts that people make to try to put this light out by inventing their own deen and rules this will lead to absolute failure. This will only lead to mischief, fitna, chaos and nothing will arise from this world for them. We can clearly experience this by looking at the state of our homes, if there is no peace at home, difficult situations, clashes between indiviuals then the only solution for this is to bring Shariah and Sunnah into our homes. The Shariah will come by making all your decisions based upon the life and laws of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and we must make this promise. Allah is reminding us about the same promise which we made a long time ago as souls. وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ
The pledge was made but it was severed after ratifying the agreement. The root cause of all the mischief and disorder in this current day and age is that we have broken that original promise/covenant. Then on top of that those that break this promise try to justify their actions by saying it is not necessary to follow Shariah and Sunnah. أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ, The Quran states you can never wipe out Islam or conceal the Deen rather you will spoil and destroy your own condition and destiny. Allah’s Nabi ﷺ and his Shariah, Alhamdulillah, there is such light, noor and guidance. If people were to follow this then Allah guarantees a beautiful life. Hadhrat Anas رضي الله عنه narrates a hadith that the Holy Prophet ﷺ stated that if a persons wishes to have an elevation, the heights, barakah and blessing in his Rizq/provision/wealth then what does he need to do? Is the solution to commit wrong, fraud, leave Salah, become engrossed in the world, put the children in to work, send them to theatres and all the family is out working. This is not the answer as our provision, wealth, prosperity, happiness in the house and all goodness is in the supreme control of Allah. It is Allah who distributes all wealth and prosperity. If we believe this then why do we not obey Allah’s orders? Does anyone desire and want goodness and prosperity in wealth then do not consume other people’s wealth, do not be involved in Riba/Interest/Usury, do not be dishonest, do not leave Salah for the sake of money and be punctual in Salah. Subhan’Allah. We think by committing these sins and by leaving the deen we are increasing our wealth. Allah states this can never happen and if we want to increase our wealth then being your Malik/Owner/Master/Contoller, I will give you the methodology to achieve the increase in wealth, blessings and prosperity. Allah states:
مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ
وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ
The way to achieve this is not to break the promise but strengthen it, adopt the Shariah and Sunnah which came with the Holy Prophet ﷺ, follow this ideology and Allah promises there will be blessings and prosperity in your sustenance. It will not be fulfilled by lying, fraud and deceiving but can only be achieved by implementing the good. The Rizq will increase, there will be obedience in the household, your wife, children and daughters will stay at home and your rizq will increase. What will increase prosperity and blessings? أَن يُوصَلَ If you desire and want it but no we don’t want this, then Allah states the consequences. We want another chance, warning after warning, Allah asks do you want your age and rizq to increase Subhan’Allah, what a great point, a brilliant life, an increase in blessings, wealth and prosperity, life to increase Subhan’Allah, a good and healthy life. In other words if you desire there not be any sickness and distress then we need to implement the way of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. What should we do? We need to increase Silah Rehmi, mend the ties, strengthen the ties and those that break the ties you should mend the ties. Increase love and harmony in society with the people you know. Then you will have blessings in your age, wealth and there will be prosperity. This can only be gained by enhancing the ties of kith and kin, fulfil the rights of relatives, meet them, look after them and the reason why enmity starts is because we have left the way of Rasulallah ﷺ. We have instead adopted strange methods, to solve our issues we have fallen prey to the Courts of Law and police stations. In this way when there is a dispute the law officers will come into our homes and lock out either the husband or wife and the children will be sent elsewhere. Does this create blessings and prosperity
مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ
وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ, is this in line with Islamic teaching? Rasulallah ﷺ Shariah and Sunnah creates harmony, prosperity and forges/strengthens the ties of relationships. Why don’t we do this? This is because we don’t follow the Shariah and do not give it any value. It is not enough just to pray your Salah but we need to implement the entire Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Indeed without these principles we can’t achieve success. This verse of the Quran teaches us that success can be achieved by maintaining ties, promoting ties and strengthening relationships. First and foremost Allah states you made a covenant/ pact that we accept the Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, our souls said this. Then Allah states by breaking that promise you had the first loss and amongst you enmity has prevailed and intensified. When you disregard and shun the Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ then this is the first loss which involves enmity, oppression, murder, plundering, looting and disorder in society. It then spreads, fighting between brothers and friends, we become blind and we become people running after debts, nobody wants to listen, nobody wants to hear, nobody wants to understand. This is what Allah states that by breaking the promise the biggest punishment you will get is that those things you should strengthen and maintain you will actually break them and you will not be able to mend them. وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ because of the mischief and disorder you have created in this world by shunning the Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and the Deen. As a result you have become sinful people of disorder and mischief. Allah has reminded us that the best and supreme way life whether the world accepts or believes or not, if you want happiness, blessings in the hereafter then Alhamdulillah, praise be to Allah. If you desire the best way and best life in this world then there is only one way, one method and that is the Holy Prophet’s ﷺ Shariah and Sunnah. We need to embrace it, implement it, imitate it, follow it and May Allah give us all the ability to do this.
“And our concluding call, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of all the Worlds.’”

From the beginning, all ayats we’ve prayed so far, in every way/genre, Allah is giving us just one message - in which is our benefit, success for hereafter and Allah’s pleasure. In this ayat which we will ray today, Allah is repeating this message in a unique way.
Quran 2:27 “Who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined and cause corruption on earth. It is those who are the losers.”
In these ayats, the message is being given to humans – alazeena is referring to “Ya ayyu han naas” where Allah is speaking to all of mankind which includes: sinful believers, disbelievers and munafiqeen, believers.
“Alazeena yanquduna ahdullahi methaqi” - Which solid pact did all of us make? kafirs, mu’mins, fasiqs, sinful Muslims, munafiqs – Allah is reminding us – you made a solid promise - not a little promise.
The Quran says: “Alastu birabbikum” – this is meethaq – all of the souls were gathered and Allah asked them “Do you accept I am lord?” and all the ruhs said “You are my Lord.” Every ruh in this dunya that has come or will come, all have made this promise to Allah that he is the Lord and we will act on Allah’s orders.
Allah made this pact first because we were being sent to such a place where people would turn away from this promise due to nafs/shaytan so Allah solidified the pact in advance so we can’t say “O I didn’t make a covenant!”
In this pact, there wasn’t just a pact with Allah but in Hadith (narrated by muhaddith Dehlawi) - when nur of mustafa was created, from his nur, ALL the other Prophets’ ruhs were created from that. Allah said to noor-e-mustafa, “Look towards these anwar.” So when the prophet looked at the light of the prophets, then his light overwhelmed their lights. When the prophets saw this nur, they asked Allah “O Allah whose light is this in front of which all our light is dimmed?”
Allah said “This is noor e Muhammad. If you believe in him then I will make you a prophet.” All responded, “We believe in his prophethood.” This pact was made with the prophets (meethaq an nabiy.) I remember a naat of mine – “mashiyate haq” – all anwar from the prophets were created from noor e Muhammad.
When Allah created Adam alayhis salam, he was given the kunya “Abu Muhammad.” And when he slipped, he requested Allah “forgive me for sake of Muhammad.” Allah asked him how he knew about Muhammad. He said, when I looked at the arsh and I saw at every door of paradise and every particle it read:
“La ilaha il lallahu Muhammad ar rasulullah.” When I saw this, I recognised: the one whose name is attached to Allah, such a person is the greatest. Allah told him “He is from your progeny and is the last prophet. His name is Ahmad in the heavens and Muhammad on Earth.” Allah made a promise, that the prophet of the end times will come and all of you will have to obey him and all the benefit of the universe will come from this. The one who is obedient to the prophet, he will be successful. And the one who disobeys him gets loss. So after a big pact, how can you reject his shariat? And to remind the people of this pact, all the prophets were sent to JUST remind people of the final prophet whose kitab, prophecy and shariat will be the last which you have to accept. All the benefit of the age will be in this. The consequence of breaking this pact is: “wa yaqta una ma amarallahu bihi an yusala.” – the benefit of the entire universe is in his shariat and sunnah so when the pact is broken by the people (like it is today) then fasad will spread. The shariah/sunnah was the one thing to unite you - meaning, in the dunya, everything was founded upon the sharia so when sharia is rejected, there will only be fasad. The Quran says, you can’t get peace – in no house, scoioety, country even though we have everything like progress – the reason is that the thing to connect i.e. sunnah and shariat – that has finished from believers and disbelievers. There was the pact of all the ruhs but also a Mu’min makes another pact when he says,
“La ilaha il lallahu Muhammad ar rasulullah.” He acknowledges Allah is one with no partners, we will accept all of Allah’s orders but it isn’t completed until we say ‘Muhammad ur rasulullah’ – we will obey him and follow his orders. So we made a promise then but then the mu’min, fasiqs, munafiqs make this (second) promise.
So to break the pact/promise, this leads to breaking of kinship – then society disintegrates. Allah sent us for maintaining ties. When people leave Allah and his rasul then relations are severed. The sharia and sunnah unite people – when it’s left society disintegrates. When you leave his laws and bring your own laws, no matter how many laws you make, you will never get success – if they did, then why is there so much fasad, killing. Only one thing mends the hearts and glue society: sharia and sunnah. The biggest thing in sharia is:
Hadith – “Mercy doesn’t descend upon that nation where there exists a person who has severed ties with his relatives.”
Hadith –Allah said ‘I am Allah, I am Ar rahman and I created relatives and linked it my name (mercy) - whoever maintains the ties, I will keep ties with him and whoever cuts it then I cut ties with him.’
So you promised Allah to believe in Allah and accept the prophet – you’ve cut ties with the Prophet and brought oppression upon yourself. When you broke the promise to accept the prophet – by accepting we mean following sunnah and sharia – so when you removed the sunnah and sharia from your lives - that was the only thing to bring you mercy from Allah - when that finished, principles finished so families were severed. Mercy doesn’t descend upon that nation where a person is cutting ties which means our dunya cannot progress, our house cannot progress until we don’t remember that promise: the promise to accept the Holy Prophet. Allah wouldn’t have made the earth or heavens or Adam if it weren’t for him. Allah says, it is fasad: the real fasadi (e.g. progressives/liberals) are those who mock sharia and make it seem lowly. And mock the followers of the sharia – they make Islam seem worthless/useless. The replace sharia with bad traditions and bida.’ But “ulaa ika humul khasiroon” - LOSS WILL REACH YOU! In dunya and akhirat. Sharia and sunnah is such a light that it can’t be blown out – try as much as you want to replace sunnah/sharia with something else, apart from fasad you won’t get anything else. If there’s no peace in homes then make a promise to implement sunnah/sharia in your house. Not only have you broken the sunnah/sharia but also publicise and spread it! “Ula ika hum ul khasiroon” You can never conceal the deen. If you follow it, you can get a good life:
Hz Anas narrates a Hadith – “Whoever wants increase in rizq…” - What? Do interest, do haram, leave salah, make wife/kids work – rizq is in hands of Allah - by rizq we mean all types of happiness – if we believe rizq is in hands of Allah why don’t we follow Allah’s orders. If anyone wants happiness and rizq then don’t eat someone’s wealth, take interest, lie or leave salah for sake of rizq– we think we can increase rizq by doing this, but Allah will tell us the secret. Allah is promising an increase in rizq not by lying or fraud. Your daughters will be sat at home and rizq will increase. And apart from rizq, do you also want an increased lifespan? By rizq we mean all happiness. And also a good age with no problems then act upon the prophet’s advice: Maintain ties – meet those who cut you off, increase the love for your relatives. No other conditions. By maintaining relatives, we mean fulfil their rights and meet them. Instead our enmity starts with them! These people have police, social services – if there’s a fight police come! When you broke the pact and leaving sunnah/shariah, the first that happens is killing, fasad and the cutties of ties – all become selfish. The thing to unite, you left it so you can never be joined. You’ve become fasadis (corruption makers). Whether dunya accept or not, if you want happiness in dunya and akhirat, then follow the Prophet’s sunnah and sharia with punctuality.
WHAT PLEDGE DID ALLAH TAKE FROM US

From the beginning of the Quran to this point, all the verses that we have read, Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ has given one message. In every way Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ has delivered that particular message through every verse in a very clear way. In this message is our benefit and the success of the hereafter. Most definitely these verses give us the Radha/Pleasure of Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ, the luggage and content that takes us to the pleasure of Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ. In this way the verse that we will read today will also deliver that message in a very unique style.
الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ
Who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined and cause corruption on earth. It is those who are the losers.
QURAN 2:27
Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ in this verse states those people who break the covenant of Allah, the promise/pact they have made but break this after ratifying it. Those that sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined, in other words the relationships or connections Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ has ordered to maintain they break them. They actually spread mischief on the earth, verily they are the losers and they will earn a very big loss أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ. In this verse Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ addresses the human beings/mankind, what does الَّذِينَ mean, the commentators of the Quran have said that when Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ stated يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ in the verses earlier, Allah was addressing all of mankind, in which are those that believe and are sinful or do those that do not believe and thirdly the munafiqeen/hypocrites. All 3 groups of people are included in يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ. Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ stated:
الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ, which strong and clear covenant/promise/pact was this that was made by Muslims, disbelievers, those that believe and accept, the fasiq, the sinful, those that reject, those that do not believe and those who do not practice and the munafiqeen/ hypocrites. Allah is reminding all of us that at such a time you made a clear promise to me, this is not a minor or small scale agreement, أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ “Am I not your Lord”, Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ states in the Quran, this is the Mizaan, the agreement the pact when Allah gathered all the souls in one place. After gathering all the souls, Allah asked them do you accept I am your Rab/Lord أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ, all of the souls said yes: قَالُوا بَلَىٰ, they agreed with Allah that you are our Lord. This agreement was made by all those who have left this world, those that living and by those that are yet to be born, this promise was made by all the souls. They all agreed and accepted Allah as the Lord. Allah took this promise from us because He was going to send us to such place where people will turn away from this promise due to nafs, base desires and shaytaan. This is why Allah solidified that pact in advance so we will not be able to reject this by saying that we did not make an agreement. In this covenant it wasn’t just an agreement with regards Allah being the Rabb but in this promise we also said directly which is confirmed in the hadith. Hadhrath Muhaddith Haq Dehlvi رحمه الله has narrated/communicated this hadith: When the noor/light of the Holy Prophet Mustafa ﷺ was created then (Subhan’Allah) from his noor came the benefit to the whole of mankind. In other words after the noor of the Holy Prophet ﷺ from this noor all of the Prophets عليه السلام creation came, their souls were extracted from this noor. Allah instructed the noor of the Holy Prophet ﷺ to look towards these Rays, when the Holy Prophets ﷺ noor looked at these rays which were the Prophets عليه السلام, His light ﷺ overwhelmed and suppressed them. The Holy Prophets ﷺ Noor was more intense than them. They started to request to Allah as to what this noor/light was as our light is dimmed and diminished in front of this. Allah stated in reply that this is Noor-e-Muhammad Abdullah, if you believe in him then I will make you a Prophet, the Prophets عليه السلام replied O Our Rab we have complete belief and trust in the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Subhan’Allah, the Holy Prophets ﷺ light overpowers all of the Prophets عليه السلام, I remember a Nasheed which describes this beautiful event and I can recite some of the words:
MASHIYATAY HAQ-E-ANWAR SE JIS GARI NOOR HAQ-E-MUHAMMAD BANA-E GAYA
This is a clear link to the hadith where it states that Allah created the Noor of the Holy Prophet ﷺ the all the remaining Prophets عليه السلام souls were extracted from that Noor.
MASHIYATAY HAQ-E-ANWAR SE JIS GARI NOOR HAQ-E-MUHAMMAD BANA-E GAYA
PIR USEE NOOR KI JALWATO KAY TUFAYL BAZME KONO MAQA KO SAJAYA GAYA
WOH AYA HO GAYA MISLAY QUN HO GAYA, GOYA TAHLEEQ-E-ARZU SAMAN HO GAYA
BEHTAY DARYAHO KO SARAY JARNAY BANAY, ZARRAY ZARRO MAY USQO BASAYA GAYA
When Allah Haq Ta Ala created Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام , his kunyat/title was Abu Muhammad and Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام turned to Allah and said O Rab for the sake of Muhammad ﷺ please forgive the action that took place in Paradise. After hearing this call from Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام , Allah asked how do you know about Muhammad ﷺ? Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام responded by saying to Allah that when you created me at that time (Subhan’Allah, Subhan’Allah), if we reflect here upon creation then the verse and the command of Allah is clear and manifest:
فَإِنَّما يَقولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكونُ
(2:117) “He just says it to BE and it is”.
The earth and the heavens were created with this same command. Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام
further states to Allah when you created me I looked upon the Arsh/Throne, I looked around Paradise and upon the doors of Paradise there was written:
لآ اِلَهَ اِلّا اللّهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُوُل اللّهِ,
When I saw this written, I understood that if there is a name with the name of Allah then this must be a supreme personality, it was written on every leaf and I realised that this is the final Prophet, Seal of the Prophets, he is from my progeny and His name is Ahmad which in the heavens and the earth is Muhammad ﷺ. We need to imagine and reflect here upon the status of Holy Prophet ﷺ that the Quran is stating: الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ
A big covenant/promise with Allah was taken, this is from the Prophets also, what was this promise? The promise from Allah stated that my Beloved Nabi ﷺ will come, He will be the Final Prophet ﷺ, you will all have to follow and obey him and the goodness of the whole of the universe/creation will be in following the Holy Prophetﷺ. Whoever follows him will be successful and those that do not follow him will incur a great loss and be amongst the losers. In other words Allah is making it clear that after making the promise with Me how can you reject the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. To remind mankind of this promise/agreement Allah continued to send the Prophets to creation to remind of the Final &Seal of the Prophets ﷺ and the Final Book of Allah which is the Quran. The shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ will be final, his Shariah will cancel all the laws that came before and people will have to accept the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and all the goodness for the people to come will be in following the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Subhan’Allah. What is the reason for breaking this covenant: الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ, Allah states you make this covenant and then sever it yet it contains all the goodness for mankind upon following the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and His Sunnah.
When mankind breaks this promise as we can see for ourselves in this current day and age,
وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ, this action of severing the agreement, breaking the tie/connection which was in actual fact the one thing that would have united you all together. In this world, to live here and succeed it was in following the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and those that oppose this will face mischief, a great loss and they will receive nothing else from this world. In other words there is only one definition for a righteous and upright life which is to be in accordance with the Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. The Quran reminds us of this that no person can attain in any shape or form peace or contentment via any other way. We see this in our lives and environment today where there is no peace and harmony in our homes, society or any country. This is despite having everything material, progress, wealth the one thing that was designed to bind everything together and keep the ties was Rasulullah’s ﷺ Shariah and Sunnah. This was the solution to everything but it has been taken out by those that believe and those that have not believed have not accepted it. Allah states الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ when on that plane where all the souls were gathered and Allah took the promise, so a believer affirms to this promise when he recites the testification of faith. All the believers say O Allah You are وَحَدْهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ meaning You are One and without any partner. The believers also testify that you are our Rab and we take a pledge of obedience but our faith/testification is not complete until we say مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُوُل اللّهِ. Muhammad ﷺ is your Rasul/Prophet, we accept this, we will obey him, imitate him and follow his laws/principles/instructions. This is the promise that we made, so the first promise we made was as souls to Allah, the disbelievers have gone to the wayside, the munafiqeen/hypocrites have made this promise/pact to Allah. Then they break this promise وَيَقْطَعُونَ and sever this tie . The promise is made to Allah to obey Him and follow the Sunnah and Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ but you must also maintain relationships in society. If people leave and Allah and the Holy Prophet ﷺ then that connection is severed. The shariah came to bring peace and similar the Holy Prophet ﷺ taught us how to maintain relationships and goodness with people. If you leave Rasulullah ﷺ and the law of Allah then you can’t bring your own laws to maintain peace, happiness and prosperity. This will impossible, no matter how many laws you make in opposition to the Shariah and Sunnah they will never succeed. If these opposing laws were successful we will not have the mischief, evil, chaos and wrongdoings in the world today. Due to these laws if look at the state of the world we have killing, looting, plundering and the only thing that can bring people together is Shariah Mutahara, the Holy Shariah and Sunnah, the honourable Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ can bring society together, forge relationships that are meaningful, the biggest and most important thing in Islam, the biggest and most important message of the Holy Prophet ﷺ in a hadith that mercy can’t descend on a nation or those people that sever their ties with their relatives and breaks their connection with them. This is a very important point, in a further hadith narrated by Hadhrat Abdul Rahman Bin Awf رضي الله عنه that the Holy Prophet ﷺ stated that Allah stated: “I am Allah and I am Rahman and created the relationships and ties, I link this with my name and Allah states whoever maintains these relationships with mercy I will be joined with him and whoever breaks their ties I will break my tie with him. So in this Ayah Allah is stating to the human beings that you made a promise with me, you made a pact with me that you will believe in me and my Holy Prophet. Then you broke that tie with the Holy Prophet ﷺ and you have oppressed yourself. When you have cancelled the agreement in believing and following the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Shariah and you take this out of your life when this is the only thing that will have kept you in line on the straight and narrow path. This would have bought peace and prosperity on you all but by breaking that tie all sources of goodness are diminished, there is no peace or love, there is no positive relationships and we can assess this by looking at the current state of the world. When the Holy Prophet ﷺ has stated that the mercy of Allah will not come upon a nation within whom there is a person who breaks the ties of kinship. My Brothers we can’t succeed nor can this Dunya prosper, our families and households can’t succeed or prosper until we do not remind ourselves of the promise that was taken by our soul. This was the promise to believe in Allah and his Prophet ﷺ (Allahu Akbar). The Prophets Name Ahmad ﷺ recognised the world in the heavens, Allah stated I would not have created the heavens and earth and addressing Adam, Allah informs Adam that I would not have created yourself if I did not create the Holy Prophet ﷺ. We need to look upon what sort of wisdom or intellect do we have when we think we can lead successful lives without the Shariah and Sunnah. This is not wisdom but rather Allah has given a different response to this by stating:
وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ
The people who have this mindset Allah refers to them as those that cause mischief on earth, they spread Fitnah, those that spread disorder and take people away from the real Deen, they criticise the Shariah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, they belittle the Sunnah and Shariah, make mockery and joke against it, they criticise, belittle them, joke with them, pick bones and pinpoint those that are following the Sunnah and Shariah, they go against the Deen of Islam and put doubts in the minds of people. They belittle, dishonour and degrade those that follow the true Shariah and Sunnah. In comparison to that those people that have the methodology against the path of Islam, they revive those ways that are against Islam but Allah states remember one point that the plots and plans of wanting to end the Shariah, they want to end the Sunnah, oppose the verse of the Quran, create a new ideology, want to create a modernist, progressive and so called thinkers. Allah calls upon these people to plot and plan as you want or invent whatever you want but ultimately أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ, it will be their loss and they will be the losers. The loss will come in this world and in the Akhirah/the hereafter. Shariah and Sunnah is that light which is so intense it can never be put out, it will never flicker and never shake. Indeed it is not conceivable for the light of Allah’s deen to be put out by the darkness of disbelief. We need to understand this important point that Allah is stating that the light of Shariah and Sunnah can never be put out. All the efforts that people make to try to put this light out by inventing their own deen and rules this will lead to absolute failure. This will only lead to mischief, fitna, chaos and nothing will arise from this world for them. We can clearly experience this by looking at the state of our homes, if there is no peace at home, difficult situations, clashes between indiviuals then the only solution for this is to bring Shariah and Sunnah into our homes. The Shariah will come by making all your decisions based upon the life and laws of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and we must make this promise. Allah is reminding us about the same promise which we made a long time ago as souls. وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ
The pledge was made but it was severed after ratifying the agreement. The root cause of all the mischief and disorder in this current day and age is that we have broken that original promise/covenant. Then on top of that those that break this promise try to justify their actions by saying it is not necessary to follow Shariah and Sunnah. أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ, The Quran states you can never wipe out Islam or conceal the Deen rather you will spoil and destroy your own condition and destiny. Allah’s Nabi ﷺ and his Shariah, Alhamdulillah, there is such light, noor and guidance. If people were to follow this then Allah guarantees a beautiful life. Hadhrat Anas رضي الله عنه narrates a hadith that the Holy Prophet ﷺ stated that if a persons wishes to have an elevation, the heights, barakah and blessing in his Rizq/provision/wealth then what does he need to do? Is the solution to commit wrong, fraud, leave Salah, become engrossed in the world, put the children in to work, send them to theatres and all the family is out working. This is not the answer as our provision, wealth, prosperity, happiness in the house and all goodness is in the supreme control of Allah. It is Allah who distributes all wealth and prosperity. If we believe this then why do we not obey Allah’s orders? Does anyone desire and want goodness and prosperity in wealth then do not consume other people’s wealth, do not be involved in Riba/Interest/Usury, do not be dishonest, do not leave Salah for the sake of money and be punctual in Salah. Subhan’Allah. We think by committing these sins and by leaving the deen we are increasing our wealth. Allah states this can never happen and if we want to increase our wealth then being your Malik/Owner/Master/Contoller, I will give you the methodology to achieve the increase in wealth, blessings and prosperity. Allah states:
مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ
وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ
The way to achieve this is not to break the promise but strengthen it, adopt the Shariah and Sunnah which came with the Holy Prophet ﷺ, follow this ideology and Allah promises there will be blessings and prosperity in your sustenance. It will not be fulfilled by lying, fraud and deceiving but can only be achieved by implementing the good. The Rizq will increase, there will be obedience in the household, your wife, children and daughters will stay at home and your rizq will increase. What will increase prosperity and blessings? أَن يُوصَلَ If you desire and want it but no we don’t want this, then Allah states the consequences. We want another chance, warning after warning, Allah asks do you want your age and rizq to increase Subhan’Allah, what a great point, a brilliant life, an increase in blessings, wealth and prosperity, life to increase Subhan’Allah, a good and healthy life. In other words if you desire there not be any sickness and distress then we need to implement the way of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. What should we do? We need to increase Silah Rehmi, mend the ties, strengthen the ties and those that break the ties you should mend the ties. Increase love and harmony in society with the people you know. Then you will have blessings in your age, wealth and there will be prosperity. This can only be gained by enhancing the ties of kith and kin, fulfil the rights of relatives, meet them, look after them and the reason why enmity starts is because we have left the way of Rasulallah ﷺ. We have instead adopted strange methods, to solve our issues we have fallen prey to the Courts of Law and police stations. In this way when there is a dispute the law officers will come into our homes and lock out either the husband or wife and the children will be sent elsewhere. Does this create blessings and prosperity
مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ
وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ, is this in line with Islamic teaching? Rasulallah ﷺ Shariah and Sunnah creates harmony, prosperity and forges/strengthens the ties of relationships. Why don’t we do this? This is because we don’t follow the Shariah and do not give it any value. It is not enough just to pray your Salah but we need to implement the entire Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Indeed without these principles we can’t achieve success. This verse of the Quran teaches us that success can be achieved by maintaining ties, promoting ties and strengthening relationships. First and foremost Allah states you made a covenant/ pact that we accept the Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, our souls said this. Then Allah states by breaking that promise you had the first loss and amongst you enmity has prevailed and intensified. When you disregard and shun the Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ then this is the first loss which involves enmity, oppression, murder, plundering, looting and disorder in society. It then spreads, fighting between brothers and friends, we become blind and we become people running after debts, nobody wants to listen, nobody wants to hear, nobody wants to understand. This is what Allah states that by breaking the promise the biggest punishment you will get is that those things you should strengthen and maintain you will actually break them and you will not be able to mend them. وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ because of the mischief and disorder you have created in this world by shunning the Shariah and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and the Deen. As a result you have become sinful people of disorder and mischief. Allah has reminded us that the best and supreme way life whether the world accepts or believes or not, if you want happiness, blessings in the hereafter then Alhamdulillah, praise be to Allah. If you desire the best way and best life in this world then there is only one way, one method and that is the Holy Prophet’s ﷺ Shariah and Sunnah. We need to embrace it, implement it, imitate it, follow it and May Allah give us all the ability to do this.
“And our concluding call, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of all the Worlds.’”
